Clearing away Junk

It is a good Day; And the kitchen renovation has started at the church. I suppose I will be eating at my desk now or looking for invitations to go out for lunch! The team was in today sorting out cupboards and packing up items. I suppose it is like life, sometimes we need to just sort out what is good and relevant and what should go!

We finished the church questionnaire. There is some interesting information there about our church. I will try and compile the data soon. One of the events most liked about our church was the Cookie Sunday. And it doesn’t seem to be about the cookies as much as I thought, but about the fellowship on the veranda.

Next Sunday is Cookie Sunday. Remember to bring cookies. One time when I was in Minneapolis, I found a donut and coffee shop. They had a donut with bacon on top! I wonder if we will ever have cookies with meat.

Coming up soon in the annual Fish Fry. It is to benefit the Benevolence Fund. The event is at the church in the fellowship hall, on Tuesday, March 19 at 6 pm. So, bring a friend. And do you have some fish to donate for the fry? Cash donations will be accepted towards the Benevolence Fund.

Coming up is a baptism. One of our young ladies has expressed she has never been baptized and wishes to express her faith by baptism. So put April 7 on your calendar and be ready to witness her expression of faith and obedience in baptism. Weather permitting, this will be in the ocean at San Francisco Beach.

Now do you know this; the youth have been collecting musical instruments and creating their own worship team. What they lack is a good-quality bass guitar. You have seen them on the worship platform at Christmas. Two of the youth are regulars in our Sunday worship team. If someone has a good bass to donate or could sell, please write to us or contact Pastor Mayra at the church.

And we really need a tablet or smartphone that is less than five years old to operate our camera. Perhaps you still have that one in a drawer? Speaking of the camera, we are also looking for a person who can come in each Sunday and is willing to learn how to use the camera and computer for the PowerPoint slide presentation. Training is provided and it is a little to learn.

Sunday, Pastor Mayra spoke from Psalm 103 and her message was about seeing God clearly. Often we have a distorted view of God. Sometimes that is based upon our father figure. Mayra explained sometimes we see God as some sort of daddy or vending machine who gives us what we are asking for. Others see God as the one who is sliding his belt out of his pants and seems to always be angry at us. How do you see God? What is your view? We need a view of God that is based on the Bible. Psalm 103 gives us a clear picture. I encourage you to read it.

Then there is the view of us. We are made in the image of God. That is how we were created. Do you carry some of the characteristics of your parents? She went on to tell us we are God’s handiwork, Ephesians 2:10. And he has prepared good works. God has a plan for us when he creates us! You are made in the image of God and for good. What gets us away from that is a distorted view of God and ourselves.

To Quote Mayra, “God wants you to know him, and provides the Bible to help you on your journey.” She left us with the challenge, “Am I allowing God the Word of God to clear my vision of Who God is?” Then I need to remove obstacles and make a slow but steady process ahead.  Anything that is keeping me at a distance from my position with him must go!

Blessings, Chuck. Next Sunday, Joshua 10:25, “Remember in Battle.”

Right Now Media. Is ready! SCCC has taken a one-year membership with RightNow Media. We are offering this resource to SCCC. I love using RightNow Media and am very excited that you will be able to have this material resource too! It contains biblical educational videos that have accompanying study books that complement the video, these can be used for group study or personal study. The studies available are of books of the Bible and also some that are topical. There are resources for adults, men, women, and teens, and videos teaching for children. I also found ‘conference’ videos that you can take advantage of. In all, there are 20,000 videos available. That is a lot of educational and inspirational material. The purpose of SCCC in offering this to you is to give you the resources to explore your faith and grow in Christian maturity.

This membership provides us with material in English and Spanish, so it suits our church community very well. Please take advantage of this material and let us know what you think.
