Kitchens, cookies, and mother’s!

It is a good Day; Such a beautiful sunrise this morning. It starts with such beauty and who knows what this day may bring?  Vacation, what Pastor Chuck is on vacation? Yes, but we have not gone far. I am a little late in my newsletter as I mix vacation with the ‘lighter duties’ of the pastorate. Just a week of a few less demands. This Sunday we will be at church.

Didn’t our guest teacher bring an excellent teaching for Mother’s Day Sunday? He is the pastor of Agape. My wife and I watched online, and then when Jorge finished speaking, we rushed over to his church, and heard him again in person. Following that we all went for brunch.

The kitchen at the church is finished. The shelves are being restocked and will all be fully operational soon. If you go to the website for the church, you can see we have a potluck coming up in June and then through the summer. In fact, the website is a page you could check often to see the upcoming events of the church. The other is by scrolling through this letter to see the events listed below.

Coming up in the next two weeks; Mondays Nights at the Movie. It will be “The Identical” playing at the church Monday May 20 at 6 pm. Free popcorn and good fellowship. The movie is about the son of a preacher who is trying to follow his dream as a rock singer but looks and sounds a bit too much like a rock singer whose initials are EP! Then God intervenes in his life. Now this is entertaining but bring a friend.  Everything we do is to reach out to our community and to strengthen our selves in fellowship as a body.

Then Sunday May 26 is Cookie Sunday, and we have a guest speaker, Ken van Kirk. There are two good reasons to be in church.

Sunday, we had a guest speaker, Jorge Campo. He was my Spanish teacher. I give him all the credit for my language education! I am just not too sure he wants to be recognized as my Spanish teacher.

Jorge spoke about being God’s chosen vehicle for His purpose. He spoke of Mary, the lady who was called! It was an extraordinary calling for her life, and it was her choice to accept and embrace this calling. Her response was excellent when she was approached by the angel and told of the coming birth of Jesus, whom she would carry. Her response was confusion mixed with, “as you have said, I will serve.”

Now when I hear that I am amazed. She operated from humility and obedience. She was totally surrendered to the direction of God upon her life. Can we respond as well? We say Jesus is Lord but often we have our limits and sadly in these times, we say he is lord as a lip service and desire blessings without sacrifice.

Just last week, Jorge and I discussed being called by God, the cost and being surrendered. It has challenges. How do we know we are called by God to a particular service? There are several ways. Yes, but as you observe someone, do you see the call of God upon them? When challenges rise up and yes, they will, then do they press on despite the cost, or do they ‘hear the Lord calling them’ elsewhere?

Mary did not waver. She was committed and oh yes it cost her. Can you image the sigma and the name calling and the doubts people had of her? And we can model ourselves from that woman who chose to be obedient.

Blessings, Chuck. Next Sunday is May 19 and it is Pentecost Sunday. What does Pentecost mean to you?
