Good Morning SCCC Family,

* Jeannine and I saw it for the second time last night and it was just as good as the first time – War Room! Over 100 people in the sanctuary, sometimes the whole group was laughing, other times you would hear personalized snickers as someone was relating and more than a few times, we were left wiping away tears which escaped as the story hit home. The story which unfolded, was a story of going to war for the things that matter in our lives, in this case it was for a marriage. So good to see many of you bring friends along to hear such a good message on the power of prayer. Thanks to Catherine Gibson and team for setting up such a wonderful evening. Next movie night will be March 7.

* “Do you Know the way to San Jose?” While this is not the same San Jose as the song refers to, it was worth the drive to the playground dedication in San Jose de Guaymas on Sunday afternoon. Those of you at Mark’s Benefit Concert heard about the project initiated by Mark and completed with the help of many supporters, including Castaway Kids. Our own Larry Kalmbach was honored with a plaque bearing his name which will be affixed to the enclosed soccer court. Larry led a group of volunteers in building Phase one of the playground, the first one of its kind in the community and one that is designed to provide positive alternatives for children. Father Gerrard and I had the honor of praying a prayer of dedication for the future use of this facility. And after the prayer, Father Gerrard and myself (Men of the Cloth) took on the Master Builders (Larry and Dave) in the inaugural game and folks we all know it just wouldn’t have been right if the Master Builders won! We crushed them – yes. Well 2-1 anyway. It was just a great day in San Jose!

* We are thrilled with the announcement Chuck made on Sunday as Matthew Wyka has responded to the call to begin his service (June 15, 2016) as Youth Ministries Director at SCCC. After spending an extended weekend with him, the Elders, Deacons, Justin, Mayra and Jeannine & I believe that our Lord has provided another piece to add to the ministry of SCCC. We all simply appreciated Matt’s heart for people and for ministry. Matt’s response to SCCC’s invitation reads like this:
“It is with a joyful heart that I wish to formally accept your offer as the Youth Ministries Director at SCCC. I thoroughly enjoyed my brief time with you, and look forward to spending the next few years with you serving Christ together. I fully believe in the missional heart that your Church has developed, and it will be a great privilege to serve alongside of you. I also look forward to turning our neighborhoods in SC into a mission field. Please join me in continuing to pray for the global Church. I will be thinking of you while I serve in Peru, and you can expect that the radical faith of the Amazonian Church will help prepare me to take on this position in Mexico. With all love in Christ, Rev. Matthew Wyka”
Our church has certainly been blessed by the friends of SCCC, whose foundation will cover the costs of Matthew’s employment for two full years. We are indeed grateful.

* Appointments with the Pastor can be made with Mayra at 226-0945. (preferably on Fridays)

* The Prayer Wall on our church website contains a number of ongoing needs of our church family. Allow me to share a few urgent needs as well:
1. Susan Dyck is with her family in Tennessee where her father is nearing the end of his life journey. Would you pray for them as they spend these days together.
2. Ellen Flores – So grateful for all that have offered your help as Jan Springman puts the schedule together to care for Ellen. Her pelvis has two breaks, which is extremely painful. Pray for a quick healing.
3. Many of you have had your vehicles repaired by Carlos (former Tim’s Mechanico). Carlos and Robert were both involved in a very serious accident last Friday and they remain in Hermosillo Hospital. Robert’s leg has been amputated and Carlos’s injuries are very severe. Please pray for them and their families.
4. Please continue to use our Prayer Wall at www.sancarloscommunitychurch.com to add your requests and to pray for those who have posted their requests.

* Philippians continues to be one of my favorite books in Scripture. I just find it full of relevant, practical truths for living our lives today in a way which honors our Lord. Last week, Paul reminded us of a wonderful truth in Phil. 2:1-4 “all lives matter”. You have never looked into or locked eyes with anyone whose life didn’t matter to God. In light of that we were all challenged, as we look at the people around us, “the pecking order” as it were, to think of three people that we could surprise with some “Godly” actions, actions of love and respect, and actions which will cause other people to know Jesus is in us. Love to hear your story as it unfolds this week.

Enjoy your journey with Jesus,
Glenn y Jeannine
