Good Morning to You; They keep coming. They come for the groceries and they take a Bible. The church has taken as active part in relieving the stresses of Covid on the San Carlos community. As we all should. I hear stories from North America. Different places are responding in different measures. In some places in Canada I know the covid measures are getting more restrictive.
For the church it is an opportunity to stretch beyond where we are. It means looking for new ways to minister.

For the first couples of years when Lynn and I were married, we lived in a house, literally with a pumpkin field on three sides of us. No close neighbours! Then we moved. We moved into a townhouse where every house is together. What an experience. If a neighbour yelled, you heard. Lynn would tell me that in the mornings after I was out of the house, she could hear the lady next door getting her kids up for school. She would yell and swear at them and call them horrible names. It of course really bothered Lynn. We prayed about it, and Lynn decided to pray for that lady, her kids and any evil influence that was there in that house. After a few days the lady came over and introduced herself and asked for sugar for her coffee or something. Of course it was an excuse to come over. So Lynn invited her in and visited and asked to pray with her.

That was all. The house next door changed. The mornings were different. No more yelling. The lady came over often to visit Lynn. I even took her for a motorcycle ride. (that is a story too.)

What I am saying is that the church, us, need to look for ways to touch the community. This Monday I saw it again. The giving away of groceries and Bibles. If they didn’t know the church was here before they do now.

Wherever you are in this 2020 year and the strange way we find we are living, look for ways to minister in a new way to the community around you!

Sharing my observations, Chuck

Covid. There are so many border restrictions yet people want to return to ministry here. Can you pray for Ryan T as he considers getting back to ministry here? And Pastor Glenn and Jeannine as they plan their return. Pray for wisdom and provision. There are many of us who have had to revise travel plans for the winter in this time. And for some it is essential that they return. In my opinion, it is essential you all return!

Men’s Breakfast and Study: Come on over to Tequila’s Thursday Oct 1 @ 8:30am. We will pray together and continue our studies. This week we have a study on “Goodness” The management will give us extra seating to keep within the ‘social distancing’ regulations.

Community Food Relief Program: Please pray as the Program leadership determines the next steps in the upcoming season. In Santa Clara there was 42 bags given out. Pastor Mayra will take 22 into Guaymas North and another 34 went out from the church. That is 98 in total. SCCC is part of a community team involving Cast Away Kids, Rotary, Rescate, SCCC and private individuals of San Carlos. I am so pleased at what I see happening because of this team. Thank you. Such a great way to ministry the love of Jesus to our community. Pray for the community as economic recovery returns.

Bible Study; Joel; How to study Biblical Prophesy    The aim of this study is to examine the book as prophesy but also to give some example of how to study scriptural prophesy. Our study resumes at chapter two. You will find us “Live” on the church fb page. The study will be online Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 p.m.. https://www.facebook.com/sancarloscommunitychurch/live_videos/

If you email me, I will send you a digital copy of the lesson. chucksheridan@hotmail.com

Please take advantage of our Prayer Wall – The Prayer Wall on our church website is a great way to keep informed of the needs of our church family and/or to request prayer for a need you have. http://flc.tak.mybluehost.me/pastorsdesk/prayer/ The Ladies Prayer Group and others check it regularly for requests.

Sermon Review:  “Hearing Loss” Matthew 7:24-27 “hear these words of mine.”

I have noticed as we age that my wife and I talk more. We don’t always hear what the other said, so we repeat it again. But we are talking more.

When Jesus taught the parable of the house built on sand or rock, I had to wonder how much he was thinking of his own disciples or was it just aimed at the religious Pharisees who didn’t hear the voice of God in his words? It would be really sad if he had his own followers in mind as he spoke. Are we then also his followers that perhaps have a hearing problem?

In his final week with the 12, he spoke very intimate words to them. He now called them friends. I pick up a tone of deeper concern as he knows he is leaving them. The conversations will no longer land on their ears but on their hearts. Would they listen? John 15:3 he said, “I have spoken to you.” In the next verse he is encouraging them to “Remain in me, and I will remain in you.” It seems the secret is the relationship. He desires a closer relationship with the 12 and ultimately the church. Jesus continues in the next few chapters of John to talk about that relationship and about unity!

In my experiences I have noticed that to build deeper relationships with others I need to work on 4 elements. 1/ Attentive. I need to be attentive to the other person. 2/ The value of the relationship to me will determine my time investment. 3/ I need to remain in that relationship, in good and bad times. Remaining together builds. 4/ Present. I need to be present and not looking for opportunities to slip away. That means being present in mind and heart and body. Have you ever noticed someone in front of you, but they are really somewhere else?

If I am to increase my relationship with Jesus to really be hearing him, I need to put these four elements to work. It is about relationship and really hearing him.
