Good Morning to You, What a great Sunday it was! Lynn and I were in and out of town through April as we had the time away to refresh ourselves. We were in the church each Sunday and took in the worship service from the balcony, but when you are use to front row, the balcony seemed so far away and separated. It is really good to be home and back at SCCC.

But it seems the exodus from S.C has begun. Glenn and Jeannine have headed north as well as several others. Sunday people expressed to me their time frame of departure to North America. I do not like this time of year. I am already looking forward to their return.

The good thing that I can see is that the virus of love between one another that can be spread through the three nations of SCCC. People leave here and take what they have learned and can share it with others. It is sort of like the “Dispersion of the Believers of SCCC.” Not necessarily a bad event. We can still keep connected by many social media platforms, and by electronic devices. Sometimes even by old fashion letter mail.

This Sunday we looked at the meaning of the Lord’s Table and Benevolence. A celebration of Love. It was the first Sunday of the month. The time when we celebrate the Lord’s Table and express Benevolence Sunday. A time when we remember what Christ did for us. The early church celebrated the Lord’s Table to remember what Christ did for them. And then they carried that into the streets. They were benevolent to one another and to their community. Acts 2:44-45 says, “they sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need.” The power of the love of Jesus in their lives was lived out in the power of the love of the believers to the community around them. Jesus was benevolent to the people and now the people of the church expressed that to the community.

San Carlos Community Church is an international church as was the first century church. This church has a history of giving back into the community. I think if this church ceased to exist, the community would notice. And that is the way to measure impact of the love of Christ and effectiveness of a church.

What are you and I doing to express the love of Christ to those around us, that they would notice if you or I were absent. Are we expressing the benevolent love that we received from Christ, to the people and community around us?

  • Next Sunday is Mother’s Day. We will look at the passage Luke 14:26 “If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple.”

How is that for harsh? We begin to look at the hard saying of Jesus as we read these in the four Gospels.
