Backpacks & mission’s

Chuck Sheridan Avatar

It is a good Day;  Christmas is really soon. Hard to think ahead to that but yes it is close. I’ll have to look for my sun shovel soon.  And so we begin our Advent season. Did you know if on December 1 you started at Luke 1 and read one chapter a day, you would finish the gospel on December 24? With Christmas coming my wife and I have made the “List” of who to send gifts and cards to. The way we do things here must be so different, E Cards of greetings, money transfers, a few actual gifts will be wrapped for local friends. It is like we are in a foreign country! Oh, we are!

A group of friends of mine are flying out of Canada for a mission’s trip to Dominica Republic. Always good to escape the cold weather to serve on a mission field further south. And here we are in this place in Mexico where every day is a mission’s trip. It just depends if we have our eyes open to the opportunity. I carry these little aluminum crosses in my car door pocket to pass out to street vendors and store clerks with a little word about God. People are always happy to have a Bible. I keep a couple in my car. Often, I give people a ride and then offer them a Bible. Never refused yet. If you are part of SCCC and want to be involved in reaching others for Jesus, I can send you in a direction or show you how simple it is. On Saturday December 2, I will be set up at Tortugas parking lot, for the Christmas season farmers market, with my table and sharpening knives and greeting people. Maybe you could come join me, and pick up some ideas. Or, just invite the neighbour over for a coffee and start by being a friend.

Please continue to pray for Randy M, he is next on the list for surgery. Remember Ethel D, to pray for her healing.

Coming Up:

Packing the backpacks for the children. We have been announcing this at church. The date is coming soon. Please bring school supplies and small toys to the church and leave them on the kitchen counter. The “packing” day is December 4, starting in the morning. Usually well organized and with enough help, it goes smooth and is a bit fun.

Women’s Christmas event on Dec. 9 from 3 to 5. It is an Afternoon Christmas Tea with an inspirational message of the Christmas Story, called “Prepare Him Room”

Sunday, we continued in the series of “Who is Jesus?”  This week we looked back at the book of Exodus to understand Jesus. In that story we see Jesus in the shadows. We started with Moses meeting God at the burning bush and the name of God was revealed to Moses, Exodus 3. We went to Exodus 6 and the promises of God to the people who were in bondage and questioned if those same promises apply to us today? Do we find the same promises from Jesus? Yes we did. Jesus is our deliverer; our bondage breaker, our redeemer, and he takes us into a new place and a new land/life.

This be the case then the question comes up, do we want to return to our Egypt just as the Hebrew people did in their wandering? After a lengthy time in the wilderness, they grumbled about life and wanted to go back to what they had! Do we also do that? Yes, often we do argue with God and look at the old life and perhaps have memories we cling to, that we should not!

We are told in Ephesians 2:19 that we have a new citizenship. The Hebrew people were promised and taken to a land that was rich and full for them and we too. They were no longer of Egypt as we are no longer of the world. We have a new citizenship. Why live as if we do not! Why do we look back and desire the things of the past land that we were delivered from?

The challenge then is, how do you live going forward? Will you live in future promises or past wants? Will you hold onto possessions of yesterday or promises of God?
This is all our challenge for daily living.

Right Now Media. Is ready! SCCC has taken a one year membership with Rightnow Media. We are offering this resource to SCCC. I love using Rightnow Media and am very excited that you will be able to have this material resource too! It contains biblical educational videos that have accompanying study books that compliment the video, these can be used for group study or personal study. The studies available are of books of the Bible and also some that are topical. There are resources for adults, men, women, teens and videos teaching for children. I also found ‘conference’ videos that you can take advantage of. In all there are 20,000 videos available. That is a lot of education and inspiration material. The purpose of SCCC in offering this to you is to give you the resources to explore your faith and grow in Christian maturity.

This membership provides for us material in English and Spanish, so it suits our church community very well. Please take advantage of this material and let us know what you think.
