Christmas decor

Chuck Sheridan Avatar

It is a good Day;  Christmas is really soon. I am sitting on my balcony in the sun, dressed like a summer day, writing this letter! And to think, already this Sunday is the first Sunday of Advent. The first Sunday we begin a special celebration of Christ’s coming. Thank you to the people who did such an excellent exercise of labour to decorate the church. How come my office didn’t get decorated? My wife is starting at our home to prepare for Christmas guests and decorations. Yes it is something to celebrate Christmas, the coming of the Lord that changed my life. I am so grateful to him.

We have an excellent winter season coming up at SCCC. We have two powerful midweek teaching sessions starting in January. One of those is the ladies session with a look at the book of Corinthians. The other is a study about Israel, it’s culture and its history. We have Missionfest the last Sunday of January when we get to know who these are that we support. We will continue with Monday Night at the Movies and Cookie Sunday. And soon we will have more information about the redecorating of our church. It is going to be a good winter.

Good news Randy M is on the book for surgery, January 3 and then a few months later they can continue for follow ups with a specialist n MX. They are very thankful for all your prayers.

Please continue to pray for Ethel D, to pray for her healing.

Coming Up:

Women’s Christmas event on Dec. 9 from 3 to 5. It is an Afternoon Christmas Tea with an inspirational message of the Christmas Story, called “Prepare Him Room”

Packing the backpacks for the children. We have been announcing this at church. The date is coming soon. Please bring school supplies and small toys to the church and leave them on the kitchen counter. The “packing” day is December 11, starting in the morning at 9. Usually well organized and with enough help, it goes smooth and is a bit fun.

Sunday, we finished a seven week series on “Who is Jesus?” We finished from where we started last week with Exodus 3 and 6 when God reveals his name and presence to Moses and instructs him to go back to Pharaoh. The essence of the message was that God is the great ‘I AM’

This week we reviewed that and then went to the gospel of John and looked at the 7 I AM statements that Jesus made. We only spent a moment on each statement and moved on through the gospel. We noted that in each statement Jesus was affirming his identity and many times his relationship to the Father. Like the week before we noted that Jesus said that if you knew Jesus then you would know the Father.

We finally finished at Revelation 1:8 when Jesus is telling John who is speaking to him and again reaffirms who he is. He is the great Alpha and Omega. Which speaks of his identity the same as “I AM” of Exodus 3 and 6. He is the self existent eternal God who is in the past, present, and future.

The point of all this is that we have a God who seeks to reveal himself to us and to be known. God wants you to know him. He is not some far off distant being, but one who makes all the efforts he can to come to us and be known.

The challenge then is, if God will make the efforts and stretch through all time to reveal himself to his creation, would you take the time to know him. He seeks relationship with us. It doesn’t take that much time each day to know him, he has already made that possible.

Right Now Media. Is ready! SCCC has taken a one year membership with Rightnow Media. We are offering this resource to SCCC. I love using Rightnow Media and am very excited that you will be able to have this material resource too! It contains biblical educational videos that have accompanying study books that compliment the video, these can be used for group study or personal study. The studies available are of books of the Bible and also some that are topical. There are resources for adults, men, women, teens and videos teaching for children. I also found ‘conference’ videos that you can take advantage of. In all there are 20,000 videos available. That is a lot of education and inspiration material. The purpose of SCCC in offering this to you is to give you the resources to explore your faith and grow in Christian maturity.

This membership provides for us material in English and Spanish, so it suits our church community very well. Please take advantage of this material and let us know what you think.
