Having a good day!

Yesterday we had a leadership conference meeting. The theme was Getting to Know you. What song comes to your mind? We examined the positives of our church past and envisioned our future. From this the leadership came away with some meat to consider for future working to move the church ahead. My own conclusion is the church over all is healthy and we have a bright future ahead.

For a warmer upper, we viewed some videos of this song, “Getting to know you.”  Actually, we covered the screen for the video and left us all to guess who the musicians were. By the time we were finished I think we had the song planted in our brain for the rest of the day. I know I had heard it enough times over and over.

This coming Sunday is the first ‘Cookie Sunday’ since (forever it seems) March 2020! Is that right? Is it really that long ago? The hospitality team will set up on the church veranda with self serve tables spaced apart. Participate as you feel able. Remember if you eat a cookie you need to bring four cookies.

Also after the worship service, the leadership has made arrangements for the conformation vote for a lead pastor.

Bob B. has made it safely to California to be near his family. He writes this week to say, “Definitely missed the fellowship and commadry of MY Church. All in all a good sermon and nice church, but we are so lucky to have SCCC.  love Bob.” He had just attended a church there for the first time and tells of how it just wasn’t family. Family and inclusion is what seems to be our strength at SCCC.

Grant D. made it safely home to be with his bride of 60 years. Grant has put so much into this church and wanted to be here to see the church through some upcoming business. Ethel needs health and prayer and he really wanted to be home with her. Please pray for them.

This Sunday was the second Sunday of Advent. Adventus is Latin, for ‘coming.’ As we read the opening chapters of the gospels it is good to know that while the books are in our New Testament the story are of people who do not know they are in the N.T. But these people are living the lives of Old Testament people.

In Luke 1 beginning at verse 59 we pick up the story of the birth of John the Baptist. His father a Temple priest starts to quote the Old Testament prophet Isaiah, He speaks about how we sit in the darkness waiting for a revelation of the coming Christ. He speaks of how his own son John is the forerunner of the Christ who is coming. The people will have a saviour, freedom from sin and a guide to the way of peace. This is a gift from God.

We also looked at the word, Parousia. It has the meaning of ‘coming’ too. But coming is the sense of judgement. We can find a lot of prophesy in our New Testament of Christ return. He is coming back. The trick is to know when? WE cannot know when it is the day or hour. Therefore, we have to always be ready as a church, and as individuals for his return.

The challenge then is not to be like the ladies in the parable of Matthew 25 who were not prepared, but to be like the ladies who were prepared.

Christmas is also a time of gift exchanges. My challenge to you is to BE a gift of hope, peace and joy to another. This season, be a gift to someone and include them into your life. This morning as I write this I hear an owl hooting, “who who who.” I have not heard an owl here before. It makes me think as a person that I too am far from my family this season, but who will I include in my Christmas season, that I can be a gift to another.

Blessings, Pastor Chuck. Next Sunday, “Christmas Family” Sure we read the ‘Christmas story’ in Matthew and Luke’s gospel, but the story begins in Genesis with a family name.

Financial reports for November are available. Email the office for your copy.

In other news:

We will be open for public worship services Sunday. STRICT regulations are being kept regarding facemasks. Service will also be LIVE on Facebook. You do not need an account. But as San Carlos is growing and it adds more demand on the available wifi service providers, it affects the upload of our video feed. If the “live” feed you are receiving is interrupted we encourage you to please return and go the page and bring up “Videos” and you will find the recorded video for each Sunday.
