Pastor’s Desk – don’t trip

Chuck Sheridan Avatar

It is a good Day; A beautiful cool morning and day time temperatures that are comfortable and our SCCC friends are returning. It is so good to welcome these people back. And just what are the temperatures where you are? This week I received pictures of snow packed roads and big tools called snow shovels. Myself, I am just trying not to trip in my sandals.

We have an exciting season coming up, with cookie Sunday, potluck dinners, mission fest, and plans that are here but yet to be finalized, so I best not say more. But it is exciting to see what is possible this winter. Right now the balcony is finished and with the additional chairs up there we have seating for 250 people. The grand bookcase is standing there, waiting for someone to take on the task of organizing the books.

My goal and hope is to raise up leaders and train people within SCCC. The two weeks I was away we had good teaching, worship and different ones doing the announcements. It made me feel good to see the caliber of people in SCCC. Thank you for sharing the work of the Sunday ministry. This last Sunday I looked back and there on sound was a lady who only accepted Jesus as Savour and baptised only this year. And there she is in the sound booth, taking care of our sound board. Such excellence!

Two weeks ago, we had guests, as we often do. They introduced themselves. And after service I hurried to the veranda to greet people. Later I checked the comment card box. There were a few cards in there. To my sorrow was a request for prayer for healing and a miracle. Mayra phoned the lady and she and her family came back to the church this week for that time of prayer. Then again this Sunday I saw the family and waited at the front for anyone who needed prayer for healing. They came forward and we prayed again. As I write this letter, she is in surgery at this moment. I am expecting a great report! But the whole matter really rocked me on my heels.

Why? There are several concerning matters of prayer for the lives, health and travels of the people of SCCC, please remember them. If you wish names of those of our church who you could pray for, just write the office and we will supply you. Let’s be a church that excels at this.

Sunday, This Sunday we opened the night door to peak in on a conversation Jesus and Nicodemus had. There has been so much speculation on why Nicodemus came at night. But to be clear the scripture does not say.

We wanted to look at the man and not so much the theology of salvation. And in that discovery of who he was, can we relate to this man? We examined the conversation of John 3, with Jesus about getting to ‘heaven’ and finding the ‘kingdom.’ Then 7:47-52 where we find the Pharisees wanting to condemn Jesus yet Nicodemus speaks up about the error of the party, and then the actions of 19:38-42.

The last passage is very interesting because such an action of Nicodemus would most certainly have put him in as a disciple of Jesus. It would not just have cost him money for the burial but his standing in society and with the Pharisees too.

From these three passages we tried to see who he was in character and is there a similarity to how we know and live for Jesus? We gave an offer for salvation in prayer. One man rededicated his life to the Lord and recognized he had not been living right and another that we know gave their life to Jesus. But sometimes people are like Nicodemus, they make small moves towards Jesus and are continuing to search out who Jesus is.

Who was this man and what can we know of his character?

For the rest of this message I invite you to the website of FB page to hear the entire message.

Blessings, Pastor Chuck.  Next Sunday, we will look at Peter and his encounters with Jesus.

Right Now Media. Is ready! SCCC has taken a one year membership with Rightnow Media. We are offering this resource to SCCC. I love using Rightnow Media and am very excited that you will be able to have this material resource too! It contains biblical educational videos that have accompanying study books that compliment the video, these can be used for group study or personal study. The studies available are of books of the Bible and also some that are topical. There are resources for adults, men, women, teens and videos teaching for children. I also found ‘conference’ videos that you can take advantage of. In all there are 20,000 videos available. That is a lot of education and inspiration material. The purpose of SCCC in offering this to you is to give you the resources to explore your faith and grow in Christian maturity.

This membership provides for us material in English and Spanish, so it suits our church community very well. Please take advantage of this material and let us know what you think.
