Pastor’s Desk – Friends

Chuck Sheridan Avatar

It is a good Day; It has been so good having three couples come to visit my wife and I.  Our house has been full. Friends come and go in our lives. Some friends sadly and unexpectedly leave. Some build relationships with you that just lasts for years. These three couples are just that. The one couple, we do not even remember where and how we met. But we think it was more than twenty five years ago.

What do they say about SCCC? They all loved the church and your welcome to them. It seems that SCCC is living out the teachings we have been exploring this winter, from 1 Corinthians about community and love. And they saw that we do have young people!

This Thursday, at the men’s breakfast, something very different, I am teaching about the six stages of a man’s life from a Hebrew understanding. Life has different stages, and we do need to adjust. Moving form one stage to another may be difficult. Some people are in denial and try to continue to be 45 at 65! Ladies are welcome to attend anytime for fellowship in the other dining room. I know last summer, some were in the habit of doing that. They went together for the easy fellowship. Like many life giving moments in the church, you just need to invite someone out.

We have some volunteer positions open in the church. We want to expand our operators for the facebook camera and the powerpoint computer. There are other positions too. I can list them all, but maybe there is something you would like to do that may not even be on my list and you just have an idea. If you can put in an hour or two a week, please contact us.

Remember the annual general meeting is this Thursday evening at 6 pm. It is a catered dinner and then the reports of 2022 and vision for 2023. Please attend.

Can I remind you to pray for Howard? And to pray for the affairs of war and disaster in other countries. Pray also for our governments, that God would have his hand upon them.

Sunday we went from Genesis to Corinthians with a stop in Proverbs. I am sure people get nervous when the pastor says he is starting in Genesis and preaching through the Bible to the New Testament!

The church in Corinth was a prosperous church but so immature. Paul as he writes to them is challenging them to maturity. Jesus spoke often about money. Not because it was important to him, but it really is to us! As a mature church, Corinth had to ‘grow up’ in it’s regard to it’s wealth. They were being challenge to give. The church in Jerusalem was in need and Corinth could assist.

The Genesis story tells us we have all we need. But as I counsel people about resource management, often the problem is not lack but management. God says he will give to make provision and tells us to manage these resources. But we just eat and devour and burn up all we have and then complain of want.

A stop in Proverbs 30:25-28 is a lesson from the animal kingdom. Some like locusts just devour and move on. Some like the ants which God calls wise, gather and store for themselves. It is as if they know how to plan and manage. The lesson is about be producers and not just consumers.

The church in Corinth was challenged to make a change from being consumers to managing their wealth as producers. And so the collection was made for the church in Jerusalem.

For the rest of the story, you can follow us on the website and hear the audio or watch the entire service or part of it on our facebook page.

Blessings, Pastor Chuck.  Next Sunday, “The Church Impacting.”

Right Now Media. Is ready! SCCC has taken a one year membership with Rightnow Media. We are offering this resource to SCCC. I love using Rightnow Media and am very excited that you will be able to have this material resource too! It contains biblical educational videos that have accompanying study books that compliment the video, these can be used for group study or personal study. The studies available are of books of the Bible and also some that are topical. There are resources for adults, men, women, teens and videos teaching for children. I also found ‘conference’ videos that you can take advantage of. In all there are 20,000 videos available. That is a lot of education and inspiration material. The purpose of SCCC in offering this to you is to give you the resources to explore your faith and grow in Christian maturity.

This membership provides for us material in English and Spanish, so it suits our church community very well. Please take advantage of this material and let us know what you think.
