Home is sweet

It is a good Day; Lynn and I have returned from our vacation. A fifteen day trip turned into sixteen. We missed a flight connection in London England. It added eleven hours to our trip. I think we are ok now. Wow, on the jetlag factor. We had an awesome time. We visited South Africa and met some friends from my previous trip and made some new friends too.

Next month we will have a potluck dinner at our home and let people look at the photos, if they wish. Lynn said it was the best vacation ever and she wants to go back! So I guess if possible in a couple of years we will do that.

On that trip we met a man. He was just ordained that day as an elder in his church. He is our grand daughter’s future father-in-law. I think as we shared we were all relieved that we share a common faith.

Back in San Carlos, it just keeps on growing. Every time you look there is a new house or new restaurant. The church is growing too. Sure we still have many of the same crowd but also many new people who have moved to SC and have chosen to stay. Our summer is almost as busy as our winter season now.

We had a potluck this last week. It was well attended. I believe there were about 45 to 50 people. A smaller group like that makes for some comfortable visits too. Just this Monday we had Movie Night at the church. While we suffered with no popcorn, we still enjoyed the movie. It was “The Ride” which is a Billy Graham production. I sat in the back and watched. No one walked out the whole movie. Everyone just watched! By that I mean, no one needed a break. We had guests too. I don’t think either of the two had been to church before.

This is Cookie Sunday on June 25th. Start baking them cookies. A month ago from this coming Sunday we had another baptism at San Francisco Beach. Are you remembering to pray for these people?

Coming up is V.B.S. July 17 to 21. Please contact Pastor Mayra for details. I like the event. I don’t get too involved but for me as the “man at the front” of the church, I get to just visit with some of our kids. What a great investment is our children.

Well is it just my view, but Sunday was not so good. My mic shut off twice. A video that was part of my message was missing. And we really don’t know why! And the FB feed gave us trouble. Sadly, we had no sound for the first part of the worship. My apologies! It seems we can do all the equipment checks we can before service and then ‘whatever’ happens!

I was visiting one of those American churches last year. It has two services and seats six hundred people each service. They live feed, on FB, their website and youtube all at once. Plus I watch a camera crew moving around with small shoulder cameras doing the video. I talked to the one tec crew who has been to our church. He said, “Yes it all looks great until a twenty-five cent fitting fails, then everything is off!” So I suppose I can take comfort we are not the only church that has those days!

Sunday, was Father’s Day. We paid tribute to our fathers. My message was 7 habits to flatten your tummy. Really it was about seven habits we should all have to be better people. While I did point at the men, we could all do better by just employing some simple habits.

First, read you Bible daily. Second, pray with your wife. (just pray with one another!) Third, get into a fellowship of others, to which you can be accountable. Fourth, get active in the church. Fifth, give of your money. Don’t be tight and stingy! Sixth, serve Jesus. Do you have a dream and a passion?  Is it connected to Jesus? And last, get some exercise so you don’t have thighs like your old mother! More important than that is to be a father. Show by example what a godly man can be!

Blessings, Pastor Chuck.  Next Sunday, “Ecclesiastes” We will start a series on this book. The author is doing some self evaluation of life and purpose. Perhaps we can learn from him?

Right Now Media. Is ready! SCCC has taken a one year membership with Rightnow Media. We are offering this resource to SCCC. I love using Rightnow Media and am very excited that you will be able to have this material resource too! It contains biblical educational videos that have accompanying study books that compliment the video, these can be used for group study or personal study. The studies available are of books of the Bible and also some that are topical. There are resources for adults, men, women, teens and videos teaching for children. I also found ‘conference’ videos that you can take advantage of. In all there are 20,000 videos available. That is a lot of education and inspiration material. The purpose of SCCC in offering this to you is to give you the resources to explore your faith and grow in Christian maturity.

This membership provides for us material in English and Spanish, so it suits our church community very well. Please take advantage of this material and let us know what you think.
