Pastor’s Desk-Incredible

Chuck Sheridan Avatar

It is a good Day; What an incredible church you are. We swell up with people and activities, then when it gets hot we go into slim mode. I can’t think of another church like SCCC. Some Sundays I don’t want to speak and think of just sitting in my chair and looking around at everyone. And we have so many interesting people. I think if I could, we could find interesting stories from each person. Such a wonderful variety. I don’t know if I have found anyone dull yet. We have people from thousands of miles away and people from just next door come each Sunday. Some of you have educations that just surprise me and work experiences that make me step back and ask, “Really?” Then we have some who maybe didn’t get past high school and maybe not at all and then have made such wonderful lives for themselves. Amazing people.

Last week I attended a Veteran’s Dinner not far from the church on private property. Wow there were some stories there. About half of the people were from SCCC. I watched as people talked and were getting to know one another and thought how blessed I am in my experiences to know such a wide range of people.

Can I encourage you, take someone you don’t know too well from church out for brunch this coming Sunday and discover the wealth of the creation of God in our people.

I have good news. Ken G. will recover from his illness and is in Canada and will be in recovery for some months. He has new doctors of course and they are re-examining and running new tests on him to access where he is at. Pray for him and Debra. The biggest concern is that his kidneys need to function well. And to get everything back to work. One quote I read was “some of his body parts want to be on strike.”

I have bad news too. I received a call from Hannah about her father, Howard. He has been returned to the hospital in critical condition but stable. They are really struggling to get him to move forward in his recovery. He is not progressing. It is urgent that we pray for him. Pray also for Susan to have peace and be strong. She must be under a lot of pressure.

Also pray for Brenda K, who was surprised with a necessary surgery in Tucson. Not part of their ministry plan. There has been trouble getting her cleared of the infection that brought about the surgery.

I also want to remind you that is just a few weeks we will be filling backpacks for children with school supplies and a small Christmas gift. This is a project of Koenes Ministries at Casa de Esperanza, and we are trying to help them fill the goal of 300 backpacks filled with supplies. Please contact them directly or bring the supplies to the church and we will put them in readiness for the project.

Sunday, The poor man was blind, sitting there minding his own business trying to collect a few coins. Suddenly as if he was not there, people are talking about him and why he is blind? Was it his sin or his parents’ sin? “Hello, I am right here, ask me!” Then without permission or him even asking someone spits, makes mud and rubs it in his eyes and tells him to go to the pool of Siloam and wash. Did someone take him or was it a walk of faith to get there? Remember he is blind, wasn’t asking for healing or to be the hot topic of the day’s discussion and there he is.

Then He becomes the big news items of the neighbourhood. People are talking about him and asking him if he is the same guy that was blind, how did you get your sight back, where is your ‘healer’? Finally, he is before the authorities who are not being tender but rude to him about his new sight. Remember, he was born blind and just wants to see the world around him that he has never seen and right away he is under attack for getting a healing, he did not ask for.

He starts off acknowledging the ‘healer’ must be a man of God and some sort of prophet. Then finally he gets to meet the ‘healer’ Jesus the Son of God and worships him as the Christ! He even takes the position of defending Jesus. Just an incredible story.
That someone can be interrupted in their life by God, when they were not looking for God! It happens. What would you do? Were you looking for God? Or did he just step into your life one day? Now how would you respond? Read it in John 9.

For the rest of this message I invite you to the website of FB page to hear the entire message.

Blessings, Pastor Chuck.  Next Sunday, we will be looking at the story of the ‘Rich young ruler.” We are trying to understand how different people engage Jesus.

Right Now Media. Is ready! SCCC has taken a one year membership with Rightnow Media. We are offering this resource to SCCC. I love using Rightnow Media and am very excited that you will be able to have this material resource too! It contains biblical educational videos that have accompanying study books that compliment the video, these can be used for group study or personal study. The studies available are of books of the Bible and also some that are topical. There are resources for adults, men, women, teens and videos teaching for children. I also found ‘conference’ videos that you can take advantage of. In all there are 20,000 videos available. That is a lot of education and inspiration material. The purpose of SCCC in offering this to you is to give you the resources to explore your faith and grow in Christian maturity.

This membership provides for us material in English and Spanish, so it suits our church community very well. Please take advantage of this material and let us know what you think.
