Pastor’s Desk – Meat cookies

Chuck Sheridan Avatar

It is a good Day; Cookie Sunday on the veranda after the worship service, was excellent. I didn’t even have one! (who was counting?)  Someone did bring cookies with meat (bacon chips). Part of the fellowship time I waited in the sanctuary to pray for people. It is a joy to see people have faith for prayer concerning health issues. There has been too much of that lately.

I have good news. Ken G. will recover from his illness and be flown back to Canada and be in recovery for some months. He was even out of bed in a walker for a few minutes. Pray for him and Debra, for their trip home and for health. The biggest concern is that his kidneys need to function well.

Many of the other people I wrote to you about who were sick have recovered or are getting much better. But I wish to remind you to pray for Howard. That he and Susan can soon return to their home in Mexico. There they will have more room, assistance for Howard and familiar surroundings which would be an encouragement to both of them and promote his recovery. Don’t stop praying for Howard. Also pray for Brenda K, who was surprised with a necessary surgery. It went well, and she will be back to her regular full steam ahead in quick time.

So many people are returning for the winter. Here it is that season where I have to remember all those names!! It is a bit of a game sometimes, I introduce myself and hope they do the same. But sometimes people just say, “Hi, I know who you are.” I was hoping they would use their name and introduce themselves. Oh, the games we play. I am so glad to see these people back with us.

I also want to remind you that is just a few weeks we will be filling backpacks for children with school supplies and a small Christmas gift. This is a project of Koenes Ministries at Casa de Esperanza, and we are trying to help them fill the goal of 300 backpacks filled with supplies. Please contact them directly or bring the supplies to the church and we will put them in readiness for the project.

Sunday, The woman at the well. This story has been so well used! But we looked at not so much what was said as the woman herself and how we can relate to her. It was bad enough that the Samaritans were a sub-culture of people whom the other Jews would have no dealings with. But when your own people are on the back side of the mountain and then you yourself are on the fringe of them too, it would be a lonely life. She was not welcome in so many circles.

I think it was no accident of timing that she showed up when Jesus was there. Jesus wasn’t surprised by her coming. And through conversation, she logically put together who he was! Then she went back into town to tell others, to come see if this really was the Christ! And following that Jesus, and the twelve, stayed another two days to teach. The poor twelve must have been really rattled at Jesus making this delayed stay! But that is my Jesus, who would choose a society outcast to be in the ministry of evangelist.

The lesson to be learned here might be that those on the fringe of society may have a message for us.

For the rest of this message I invite you to the website of FB page to hear the entire message.

Blessings, Pastor Chuck.  Next Sunday, we will see about the Blind Man of John 9 and his encounter with Jesus. Another life interrupted by the Son of God.

Right Now Media. Is ready! SCCC has taken a one year membership with Rightnow Media. We are offering this resource to SCCC. I love using Rightnow Media and am very excited that you will be able to have this material resource too! It contains biblical educational videos that have accompanying study books that compliment the video, these can be used for group study or personal study. The studies available are of books of the Bible and also some that are topical. There are resources for adults, men, women, teens and videos teaching for children. I also found ‘conference’ videos that you can take advantage of. In all there are 20,000 videos available. That is a lot of education and inspiration material. The purpose of SCCC in offering this to you is to give you the resources to explore your faith and grow in Christian maturity.

This membership provides for us material in English and Spanish, so it suits our church community very well. Please take advantage of this material and let us know what you think.
