Movie and dinner

It is a good Day; We had an excellent week away. Shopping, oh my feet hurt. We visited some friends and did a lot of relaxing. It was a good slow down time. We attended church on Sunday and there I am watching bits of our service on FB at the same time. Everyone at SCCC did their part and it proved that I can step away. The church is about people meeting Jesus and people serving people.

I did some thinking and remembering some of the stories I have heard. About a year ago, a man phoned me and asked for an appointment. He came to my office and explained he had been watching SCCC on FB for several months. He said it was time to come back to church and the fellowship. A couple of weeks ago on the church veranda, he told me how much the church was his weekly highlight. He told me he has learned more at SCCC than any previous church.

Another couple told me that as they are only in their home state a few months of the year, and with 2020 closures they fell out of church. But each year they returned to SCCC for the winter and when back in USA they watch our services on FB. They also said they now give all their tithes to SCCC. It is their year round church, even though they can only attend several months a year.

Another lady said she heard about our church and then watched the service on FB. Only once. After that she decided to come to church. A couple of Sundays later she gave her life to Jesus.

In the future we plan to have our new web site up and working. We are also considering if FB has worked for us this well, perhaps we should use other video media for connecting with people who are investigating Christianity and their search for a real authentic Jesus.

This evening Wednesday May 10 we have a potluck dinner, at 5:30 at the church. Bring a meal to share and a friend. Please bring the meal prepared and ready to serve. The church kitchen gets very busy if you are trying to heat it up, or make the salad etc. It is also the day Mexicans celebrate Mother’s Day. Maybe we can find some manner to fit that in?

Then Monday May 15 at six p.m. is Monday Night at the Movies. The movie is “The Case for Christ.” It is a movie about a man’s experience about 40 years ago, who thought he could disprove Jesus Christ as a real person who was the Son of God. I write in the past tense, but we all know he is in the present tense now! Please come join us for these events. Bring a friend. And thanks again to Scott and Kelly for preparing the popcorn and water.

Next Sunday we have baptism coming up. On Sunday May 14 Pablo and Jan are being baptized in the Sea of Cortez. They both shared their testimony with Mayra and I. We are excited to see them taking this step of faith. A video of their baptisms will be posted later that week on our fb page.

Sunday, Mark Knaak spoke about grace and truth. If you watched it on FB the audio is very quiet and you can go to the website and listen to it on Audio Sermons page. I will make some comments here, but these are not his comments just mine from what I gained as I reflect on Mark’s message.

Mark says that there must be a balance of grace and truth. Something I think what the people lack is the balance. But God keeps these in balance. Mark spoke about each component of these. His interesting statement was that when we are full of the balance of grace and truth, we are full of God. Oh I wish we were more balanced. Too often we are the people full of the truth of the Bible and create some religious rule system from our scriptural view, and then forget the grace we are given and to display that to others.

Having said that we have to know enough truth to know our place. We are sinners and not deserving the presence of God in our lives. But we also see the grace of God upon us that the truth does not destroy us in our sorrows for our state. That same grace we receive we need to display and give.

Mark spoke of this matter of the truth of God revealed in his own life. From his own experiences he shared of how then he found the grace of God that displayed love that prevented the truth of his sin from crushing him. That balance brought him to acknowledge God. And we are glad for that.

Right Now Media. Is ready! SCCC has taken a one year membership with Rightnow Media. We are offering this resource to SCCC. I love using Rightnow Media and am very excited that you will be able to have this material resource too! It contains biblical educational videos that have accompanying study books that compliment the video, these can be used for group study or personal study. The studies available are of books of the Bible and also some that are topical. There are resources for adults, men, women, teens and videos teaching for children. I also found ‘conference’ videos that you can take advantage of. In all there are 20,000 videos available. That is a lot of education and inspiration material. The purpose of SCCC in offering this to you is to give you the resources to explore your faith and grow in Christian maturity.

This membership provides for us material in English and Spanish, so it suits our church community very well. Please take advantage of this material and let us know what you think.
