Pastor’s Desk – never leaving again

Chuck Sheridan Avatar

It is a good Day; This fall as some of our church prepare to come to San Carlos for the winter, we wish to remind you of the program, Backpacks for Jesus, sponsored by Casa de Esperanza. Please pick up items to fill these bags that children can use for school, such as pens, pencils, paper. Bring them to the church and later in December there will be a short day on the veranda when we can organize and fill the bags. The idea being that the children will have the bags for returning to school after Christmas.

Many people continue to ask about Howard. He is at home with his wife in B.C. Canada. He is still very sick but is responding to antibiotics. He is under full time care. This includes physio and diet and mental and physical exercise to encourage his recovery. Please continue to pray for Howard.

Lynn and I returned from a short trip and we vow never to leave again. (maybe again, but not for a long time and we are so happy to be back.) We really missed SC and the people of SCCC. Our friends picked us up at Hermosillo and on the way into SC, one asked how do we feel coming back. We both agreed that we were happy to be home.  Somehow we have to figure out how to take time off and still come to church!

We have an exciting season coming up, with cookie Sunday, potluck dinners, mission fest, and plans that are here but yet to be finalized, so I best not say more. But it is exciting to see what is possible this winter. If recent world events have kept you away, come on back and see some of the small changes.

There are several concerning matters of prayer for the lives, health and travels of the people of SCCC, please remember them.

Sunday, This Sunday we began a series on people who encountered Jesus. Our first look was at Nathanael, as found in the text of John 1:45-51. He was a close friend of Philip who encouraged him to come and meet Jesus. We soon read a three way conversation of Philip, Nathanael and Jesus.

Philip presses Nathanael to meet Jesus based on what the scriptures said. But Nathanael has a problem. He is prejudice about people who come from Nazareth. Jesus was from Nazareth and how can anything good come from that town. Yet Nathanael was looking for the coming of the Messiah and once he met him, quickly accepted who Jesus was. And his prejudices fell down.

Some times our preconceived ideas and prejudices will come down once we meet some one. Some times we have to drop our preconceived ideas to find the truth. Jesus saw that Nathanael was a true Israelite and seeker of truth.

How much are we like Nathanael? Missing the beauty of who people are because we have a preconceived idea about them, before we get to know them? How often have we missed a wonderful person? Maybe we miss something about Jesus too. Or maybe your notions about church, and religion are keeping you from knowing Jesus!

For the rest of this message I invite you to the website of FB page to hear the entire message.

Blessings, Pastor Chuck.  Next Sunday, we will look at the person Nicodemus. We will look at the man and not necessarily the message. Though I can’t leave that alone either.

Right Now Media. Is ready! SCCC has taken a one year membership with Rightnow Media. We are offering this resource to SCCC. I love using Rightnow Media and am very excited that you will be able to have this material resource too! It contains biblical educational videos that have accompanying study books that compliment the video, these can be used for group study or personal study. The studies available are of books of the Bible and also some that are topical. There are resources for adults, men, women, teens and videos teaching for children. I also found ‘conference’ videos that you can take advantage of. In all there are 20,000 videos available. That is a lot of education and inspiration material. The purpose of SCCC in offering this to you is to give you the resources to explore your faith and grow in Christian maturity.

This membership provides for us material in English and Spanish, so it suits our church community very well. Please take advantage of this material and let us know what you think.
