Pastor’s Desk-outreach

It is a good Day; It is rare that I ever do this. But myself and others were very impressed and I think this is worth sharing. A couple of weeks ago we had an opportunity to attend a benefit to raise some funds for the young people of Casa de Pan. It was a taco lunch in support of raising support to attend a youth conference. I think all of us in attendance were very impressed with the youth we met. I include here today an exert of a letter I received of their work.

“Hi there! The youth of Belen Casa de Pan (a Christian feeding center of Guaymas) want to go to an annual national youth conference, (on April 26-29) it’s a very important youth event in Mexico, where the Holy Spirit will minister their hearts, healing, bring freedom through the word of God, calling and teaching them how to be servants! This generation is very important to us because many of them have been with us since little (they were little. Meaning many of these youth have a very long time relationship with the ministry as a child and now a teen) and now they are helping in many parts such as vbs, cleaning up, outreach and festivals because of this we would love for them to be part of this wonderful experience.

The cost will be approx. $5500 pesos per person (transportation, hotel, food and conference) 10-15 youth plus the leaders (4) would be wonderful!! But we have some younger youth that would love to come also! ($5500 x 15 = $82500 pesos or $4500 US)

We have been selling homemade cookies and just had a lunch event and will be selling more food and having a jewelry raffle in the future.

Between all the sales and donations we have $25,000 pesos but have the faith we’ll have it all covered through the future activities and donations. If somebody wants to donate they can send please a mail to devonkehler@hotmail.com or call 6221691612 for details of tax deductible or direct transfer.” Italics are my own additions to this letter.

This next weekend is Easter. Yes we will have a Good Friday service at 9 a.m. and also Sunday at 9 a.m. Easter Sunday the 9th which is also the 2nd Sunday of the month is also a time of fellowship with cookies and coffee after the service on the veranda. Something to remember and enjoy.

Semana Santa is coming up. This year the Easter weekend is April 7-9. We will have two outreach ministry stations in operation. One at the round about near Los Jitos Hotel and the Fletcha gas and another at the San Francisco beach. We plan to take our youth group out to give away bottled water and an invitation to the church. Last year we placed those invitations inside a book, “Historias de la Vida Real” and offered it to people on the street in that manner. Last year we gave away 1512 books and invitations to the church. Thanks to your donations we now have a total of 2400 pieces of Spanish literature in a booklet format. It is a great effect way to share when teenagers approach a person with water and a smile! Please pray the effectiveness of this ministry!

Monday Night at the Movies is next on April 17, “Risen” released in 2016 with Joseph Fiennes. Movie Night has been very popular as a fellowship event. The intermission with old style animated cartoons and free popcorn has been fun too.

Sunday, is coming but before Sunday was Good Friday. And before that was what we call the Passion Week and before that was Lazarus. We find that story in John 11.

It is a good lesson to care givers and pastors. Lazarus was ill and dying yet Jesus waited two days. The rest of us would rush in to ‘save the day’ and be shinning knights. But Jesus delayed for two days. So we picked through the verses of this chapter to understand something of ourselves in this story.

What I would suggest is that we all have a Lazarus story. A tragic event and we called upon God and he sat silent for two days while we struggled with our faith. Someplace we all have a tomb where we buried our Lazarus. We rolled a stone in front of that tomb and walked away. Thinking it stinks in there and God didn’t show up on time. Where was he when I needed him? If he had come on time this would not have happened.

As you read through the story there is something else to notice. Jesus waited outside of the village and did not go to Martha and Mary. He waited for them. And what does Martha do? She goes to meet him. And then she complains and cries. And Mary she didn’t go until Jesus sent for her! I wonder how many times Jesus sent for me and he waited and I failed to go? I bet a few more than I think.

Then when Jesus does arrive at the tomb, he doesn’t dirty his hands on a tomb. He gets the others to roll away the stone. Why? What can I learn from that?

God calls us to move the stone from our tomb of Lazarus. Let the air and light in and come to grips with what is there. Should it all stay buried or is that dream to be exposed to the call of Jesus? Something that only us as individuals can take to God for the answer.

Right Now Media. Is ready! SCCC has taken a one year membership with Rightnow Media. We are offering this resource to SCCC. I love using Rightnow Media and am very excited that you will be able to have this material resource too! It contains biblical educational videos that have accompanying study books that compliment the video, these can be used for group study or personal study. The studies available are of books of the Bible and also some that are topical. There are resources for adults, men, women, teens and videos teaching for children. I also found ‘conference’ videos that you can take advantage of. In all there are 20,000 videos available. That is a lot of education and inspiration material. The purpose of SCCC in offering this to you is to give you the resources to explore your faith and grow in Christian maturity.

This membership provides for us material in English and Spanish, so it suits our church community very well. Please take advantage of this material and let us know what you think.
