Pastor’s Desk-prove it

Chuck Sheridan Avatar

It is a good Day; One of my sons wrote to me this week. He was in a crisis of faith. Someone important to him was dying. The crisis was that he realized he had let his relationship with God slide and didn’t see it until he felt the sting of a coming death. Sadly that is what it takes sometimes for us to move back into relationship with Jesus. A bad spot on the road seems necessary for us to look for help, direction and relationship. I suggest that keeping the right close relationship needs to be maintained at all times.

Coming up in May we have a potluck dinner, May 10 at 5:30 at the church. Bring a meal to share and a friend. It is also the day Mexicans celebrate Mother’s Day. Then Monday May 15 at six p.m. is Monday Night at the Movie.

Hey we have baptism coming up. On Sunday May 14 Pablo is being baptized in the Sea of Cortez. He truly loves Jesus and shared his testimony with Mayra and I. We are excited to see him taking this step of faith. If you wish to be baptized contact us as soon as you can. A video of his baptism will be posted later that week on our fb page.

Don’t forget the Christian Education Center is having their graduation this Friday at 6 pm at the church. Please come. I use to attend just to encourage the students and to listen in Spanish. (maybe I would learn a bit.) But this year they will have English translation for us. Come and join us/them.

Sunday, faith isn’t that hard. Maybe more difficult when the circumstances look so bad. This past Sunday we looked at two men in the Bible who both had a faith crisis. Both had the worst of circumstances. And yet only the one comes away as a giant of faith. I think it was their view of God was better and bigger than their view of their circumstances.

In John 20:24-29 it is after the resurrection. Jesus stepped into the room were the disciples were and it was eight days after his resurrection from the tomb. It was for Thomas. The others had seen Jesus but Thomas had not and still did not believe the reports of Jesus being alive. Verse 25 was Jesus telling Thomas to touch and see. Thomas only had a faith built on his senses. He needed a greater revelation of Jesus. I wish we had more stories and accounts of Thomas in his next few years to see what he did? When someone truly gets a revelation of who Jesus is, they seem to explode in their faith.

Then we have Abraham, who had a son Isaac. Abraham was told by God that from this son would come a great multitude of nations, Genesis 15:4-5 and 22:16-18. But later told he had to sacrifice his son, Genesis 22. You should read the story, at least chapter 22. And look at the commentary in Romans 4:13-24, especially verse 20, that Abraham grew stronger in faith in those circumstances. He did not waiver!

Comparing the two men, who are you most like? I think I am a Thomas. I am one of those ‘prove it to me’ guys. As I grow and know the Lord more I had a greater revelation of who he is and therefore a greater faith in what God can do. It has taken some time to get a revelation of the power of God. I suggest that is what we need, a revelation of who Jesus is!

Blessings, Pastor Chuck.  Next Sunday, “Roads to Faith”

Right Now Media. Is ready! SCCC has taken a one year membership with Rightnow Media. We are offering this resource to SCCC. I love using Rightnow Media and am very excited that you will be able to have this material resource too! It contains biblical educational videos that have accompanying study books that compliment the video, these can be used for group study or personal study. The studies available are of books of the Bible and also some that are topical. There are resources for adults, men, women, teens and videos teaching for children. I also found ‘conference’ videos that you can take advantage of. In all there are 20,000 videos available. That is a lot of education and inspiration material. The purpose of SCCC in offering this to you is to give you the resources to explore your faith and grow in Christian maturity.

This membership provides for us material in English and Spanish, so it suits our church community very well. Please take advantage of this material and let us know what you think.
