Rain and popcorn

Chuck Sheridan Avatar

It is a good Day; And it is raining again. Summer is in full swing here in San Carlos. The church is busy and the tourist are here. Taking a drive down the main street in the evenings on the weekend is an exploration of various car plates! And each Sunday we receive new guests at church.

A couple of Friday evenings ago, I went to catch up with our staff and volunteers at a youth event. I watch a young 19 year old man preach a Bible message to his peers. I saw them laugh and enjoy snacks together and then it was into the pool. It was good to hear them laugh and tease one another. They are really a tight group and also well behaved. It was a testimony to their parents and to the youth leaders. Just when you fear for the future of the next generation and this world we find a group like these youth.

I wanted to thank you for the replies. If you missed the question, here it is again. I was saying; That some attend church (?) through online worship services. I realize my question has a limited amount of receivers but, do you take in a worship service online 1) via Facebook 2) via Youtube 3) via a live stream off a church website. And would you write me back with your answer and perhaps tell me what church and why that church. It is for research on present trends of church attendance.

The Potluck Dinner on Thursday July 13 was excellent. We had about 65 people join us. Such a variety of food! We had many guests. Several were Mexican students who were studying to learn English. We were even given a demonstration skit about what a class day for them was like. For a group who has only been several weeks they sure showed their language skills!

V.B.S. is upon us.  July 17 to 21. It is for children, ages five to eleven. Mornings at the church office are going to be very busy and a lot going on with 30 plus children in the building. Maybe I should lock my door! Actually, I do enjoy the time watching them learn and play. God bless our workers.

Also Monday July 17 was Monday Night at the Movies at 6 pm. There was free popcorn. The movie was “Mountain Top.” About a pastor who returns to law practice and uncovers corruption in his small town, just as he is dismissed from his pastorate and his church burns! Oh yeah and the pastor goes to jail. It is a “who done it” type of movie. Then half way through our viewing of the movie…. The power went out at the church! It was local and we had power at my house. Someone in the dark suggested we all go to my house to see the rest of the movie. Yeah that would be great. The movie can be found on Youtube if you are one of those who were in the dark, and wanted to ee the rest of the movie.

Sunday, what to do with time. We explore it all the time. We sing songs and watch movies about time. We are fascinated by the possibility of changing time. If you could change your personal timeline, what would you do?

Have you heard the expression, “This is not the time.” Meaning what we propose to do is not to be done now, perhaps a bit later. The author of Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 is saying just that. That there is an appropriate time for every event under the sun. There are 28 different statements where we are told there is a time for every event. And ours is to know that correct time. To know the correct time or correct season is wisdom! What fool plants seeds at the wrong season?  3:1 There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven—

The same wind that piles up sand (snow maybe where you are) is also the same wind that blows it away. We have near death experiences and someone will say, “Well I guess it just was not your time.”

Which takes us to the matter of eternity. Something else man is trying to understand. The writer says eternity is in our hearts. Meaning that within the very core of us is that sense, sort of a primal sense that eternity exists and we are destined for it. But we are not the inventors of time. God created time and all through the ages we have sought different means to measure time, thinking that we invented time. God is the creator of day and night from the beginning of creation. And it is he that is in eternity and perhaps from that place, he calls us. Hence, we sense a call to eternity.

We stare at the night stars and yet never will we comprehend the edge of the universe nor eternity and time. But from all eternity, the one who knows the beginning, He calls to us. Answer that call!

Blessings, Pastor Chuck.

Right Now Media. Is ready! SCCC has taken a one year membership with Rightnow Media. We are offering this resource to SCCC. I love using Rightnow Media and am very excited that you will be able to have this material resource too! It contains biblical educational videos that have accompanying study books that compliment the video, these can be used for group study or personal study. The studies available are of books of the Bible and also some that are topical. There are resources for adults, men, women, teens and videos teaching for children. I also found ‘conference’ videos that you can take advantage of. In all there are 20,000 videos available. That is a lot of education and inspiration material. The purpose of SCCC in offering this to you is to give you the resources to explore your faith and grow in Christian maturity.

This membership provides for us material in English and Spanish, so it suits our church community very well. Please take advantage of this material and let us know what you think.
