Good Morning to You, and it is good to be back. Not that we really went anywhere. I think in two months the furthest Lynn and I went was Guaymas. We cancelled our trips, stayed in town and worked on projects here.

I spent my morning studying. Now I have studies prepared to teach on Jonah, Joel, Ephesians and the Parables of Mark. I’ll teach one this summer. And then two next winter. It was a good time for me to study in depth, with no demands and the freedom to just create. And yes, I also got my forge built. I regretted leaving one in Canada and was happy to get this built.

I was so proud to be past of SCCC as I watched the church minister into the needs of the community at this time of crisis. I was proud at the innovation to continue to present worship service opportunities for people, with drive in church and on-line church. It is an amazing team that put in so much effort to bring worship opportunities together. Then, there are groups that continue to meet via different venues of technology to pray and fellowship together. How great is the church!

And I am thankful for the people who would just drop by to share an ice coffee on my veranda and visit! How awesome are SCCC people! My garage may be the sanctuary to hear from God, but the veranda is the place to share the heart of God. I think in my heart there is a cheer leader for the people of God! (oh boy!)

Pastor Glenn and Jeannine are away on a vacation, and have arrived in Canada. And they sure are missed here. People have so much respect for them. Please keep them in prayer as they travel and rest too.

Men’s Breakfast and Study: Come on over to Tequila’s Thursday June 4 @ 8:30am. We will pray together and catch up with one another. The management will give us extra seating to keep within the ‘social distancing’ regulations.

Please take advantage of our Prayer Wall – The Prayer Wall on our church website is a great way to keep informed of the needs of our church family and/or to request prayer for a need you have. Ours should be a church of prayer. Please continue to pray for Gary Bradley. We are getting good reports but his health is still serious. Remember to pray for Donna Holland and her family as they go through the grief of loss of Dawn.

Food cupboard Ministry: This week our team under Pastor Mayra dispensed groceries to 19 families. Such a great way to ministry the love of Jesus to our community.

Sermon Review “Pray and Play” A Review of Acts 1-19

Pastor Glenn did a review of what he noticed in the first 19 chapters of Acts. First as a model for us to see, the early church prayed. It was a church that prayed with urgency and valued prayer. We all have items and activities in our lives that we value. And that is where we put our time and money. For the early church it was prayer. Perhaps we think they accomplished so much because they had the Apostles. Or perhaps it was because they valued prayer so much and prayed with an urgency.

Pastor suggested maybe we would have a ‘prayer summit’ the last Sunday of each month in an after dinner time. It is a great thought. What would happen to our community if we prayed like that? What would happen to the lives of people in our church if we prayed like that? I think it is a thought that we should explore. I am glad for the Pastor’s suggestion. Many times, I may not want to go, but sometimes we do what we don’t want to and later are glad we did. Let’s be honest!

The church was also a church that got in the game. They didn’t play church they played life. Or in a better way, they didn’t just watch life and go to watch church, they got involved in the life of church and their community.

I am not much for watching sports. I couldn’t tell you which team won or played where. I want to be in the game. But in the same fashion, we have turned church into an event we attend a couple of times a week, if we are really involved, and we watch or mildly participate. In fact, some people can tell me the score from recently sports events and can’t tell me what the teaching at church was about. Let’s be real and honest, we need to be in the game not watching.

When I read Acts. I don’t read much about church facilities. It is about the acts of the church. As Pastor Glenn said, “the church building is a practice facility.” It is where we go to practice our faith that we will put into action in the community! Oh church, let’s do it!

Did we ever notice the book of Acts has no concluding chapter? We are left with a “to be continued” on the last page. Perhaps because the Acts is not finished and we are to be continuing the acts of the church!? Can we be Acts 29, as we pray and play?

Next Sunday, tune into the fb page for SCCC and invite a friend over, sit down, stand up or whatever, and worship together. We will continue to explore Acts for a model for our church.

God bless your week, Pastor Chuck
