It’s Cold

When you come to the church next time, take a walk into the fellowship hall. It is being redecorated! And if you are good or very good with a paint brush, let me know if you can spare a couple of hours.

Sunday, we considered the story of Rahab as told in Joshua 2. It is a great story. You can almost add your self to the story. That is the great part of stories, is when you can add yourself into the romance and adventure. Joshua had sent two spies into the city of Jericho. Rahab figured out who they were, but so did others and soon the men were in danger of their lives as spies. Rahab hid them and sent them out her window. They made an agreement to spare her life and that of her family by a sign of a red rope, or ribbon outside her window. Her family was spared and she is even written into Hebrews 11 with others of how they proved to people of great faith.

How did this polytheist woman who was a prostitute from such a violent culture get to trust the Hebrew god? I suggest because she heard the stories of how the Hebrew god was so powerful to save them. She knew theirs was the god who is greatest. Look at verse 11, “And as soon as we heard it, our hearts melted, and there was no spirit left in any man because of you, for the LORD your God, he is God in the heavens above and on the earth beneath.”

She came to the knowledge and faith in God because she heard all the stories of this great God. She had no Hebrew scriptures and no active evidence in her life, but only stories and testimonies of his power.

Then there is us. We have the scriptures and the stories and testimonies, what more do we need? We need to share our stories. Our good stories about what God is doing in our lives and in our church. In a time when everyone wants to talk about the evils of the world, politics and immorality and war, can’t we inspire hope and faith in people by our stories. Isn’t it time to put away the bad reputations that churches have by telling the positive stories?

We can grow a church by lights, excellence in music and a little fog and smoke in our worship service. You know, put on a real stage production! Or perhaps just by people hearing what is happening in this church, because people hear that God shows up there on Sunday.

So when you meet people this week, share a great story about the positive things God is doing and wash out the old negative stories. The church in general has suffered too many negative stories, yet we have so many better stories.

Without writing the whole of the Sunday script for you here, you can hear the full service on our FB page under the icon “Videos” and the audio of this message is on our website, in the icon of “Audio” We are also on YouTube, just search under San Carlos Community Church.

Blessings, Chuck.

Right Now Media. Is ready!

SCCC has taken a one year membership with Rightnow Media. We are offering this resource to SCCC. I love using Rightnow Media and am very excited that you will be able to have this material resource too! It contains biblical educational videos that have accompanying study books that compliment the video, these can be used for group study or personal study. The studies available are of books of the Bible and also some that are topical. There are resources for adults, men, women, teens and videos teaching for children. I also found ‘conference’ videos that you can take advantage of. In all there are 20,000 videos available. That is a lot of education and inspiration material. The purpose of SCCC in offering this to you is to give you the resources to explore your faith and grow in Christian maturity. This membership provides for us material in English and Spanish, so it suits our church community very well. Please take advantage of this material and let us know what you think.
