It is a good day!  YES we had a Christmas Eve service. And it was good. The music for worship was by keyboard and a choir. I can’t say enough about how excellent it was. Then again we celebrated this Sunday with the same instruments and voices and I just didn’t want to preach, but continue to worship Jesus in song. There are many fine instruments but nothing replaces the sound of the human voice. I think the angels joined us in worship of who Jesus is.

This Sunday we also had Cookie Sunday. Again another excellent selection of fine baked goods on the table. I never had one! I was so enjoying the visits with our fine people I never got my cookie. But I know where the left overs are kept. I just may sneak one this week.

We had some guest for church and then after service we invaded a local restaurant for brunch. It must be a little overwhelming when a dozen people show up and want breakfast, Again it is the fellowship we enjoyed.

Church is about prayer, worship, Bible preaching (learning the Word of God) and the fellowship of community. Many people now had church online via some media source. My wife and I tried that too with the restrictions in place or when we travel. But as soon as we can get into a church to worship together and fellowship, we do! Can you imagine cookie Sunday online? We all hook up to zoom and visit and eat cookies together. It would be kind of phony wouldn’t it? Church online is ok, but it really lacks community. It is like 1500 friends on a social platform but it lacks the human touch and community. Church online is what we provide, because many people just CANNOT attend a church in person, but it is like a veggie burger (I have tried that) and it just lacks substance. “Where’s the beef?”

As we finished off this Christmas season we looked at who the wise men of Matthew two were.  There is so much legend that has creeped into our understanding of who these men were.  Matthew two is not about the wise men. They are not the main characters of the story. These wise men are the supporting actors in the story.  Jesus and his coming are the focus of not just Matthew two, but the entire Bible. So, if we look into this story and try to extract only about who the wise men from the east were, we don’t have much to go on.

But the lesson we need to extract is that they were wise enough to go look for the “king of the Jews.” They sough him and found him and worshipped him. Another guy is Herod. His intention was to find this ‘king of the Jews’ to murder him and not to worship hm. Herod did not do well. He missed an opportunity to go into history and eternity with all the benefits of serving the greatest king.

Another was Simeon. His story is in Luke2:25-32. He was wise. He knew the Scriptures and when he realized who the baby was that was before him, he worshipped him. He was wise because he did know the Scriptures and the prophesy and went into history and eternity with all the blessing of knowing and serving God.

Then the question comes up about us? Are we wise? Do we recognize who Jesus is and the reason we celebrate this time of year is about Jesus and the manifested Word of God come to dwell among man.

This coming Sunday is a celebration at the Lord’s Table. It is also Benevolence Sunday. A time to remember the needy and collect to distribute for them. Prepare for the Lord’s Table as you consider Sunday.

Blessings, Pastor Chuck. Next Sunday, “Communion Family”

In other news:

We will be open for public worship services Sunday. STRICT regulations are being kept regarding facemasks. Service will also be LIVE on Facebook. You do not need an account. But as San Carlos is growing and it adds more demand on the available wifi service providers, it affects the upload of our video feed. If the “live” feed you are receiving is interrupted we encourage you to please return and go the page and bring up “Videos” and you will find the recorded video for each Sunday.
