Having a good day!

Youth Christmas for their parents. Wow was that ever a good event. The youth group put on a dinner for their parents. That was what I was told, but three of the mothers did the major cooking. However, the youth did do all the other work. One lady in attendance was 93 years old. She said she had so much fun with the youth. She was a guest, as also was Lynn and I. They had awards and games, and photo opportunities (they sure like using those cameras.) Pastor Mayra preached the gospel about salvation. She does a good job of translating for us 6 English speakers that were there. I was really impressed with the whole evening. We left them to finish up and then I returned on Saturday to check the building. You would not even know they had been there but for the balloons still floating around the youth hall. They even cleaned the washrooms. Super job!

Then this past Sunday we were treated to a song, “Silent Night.” The youth sang, and played the instruments and we all just sat in the beauty of the sound. They all knew their part and were so orderly and exact.

Now I always considered one style of music that I prefer to be the best. But the vocal group this Sunday that sang carols just about brought the angels down from heaven. They were so good. I didn’t want to preach, I just wanted to hear more and worship.

You can watch and listen here.

Finally, I had to get up and preach, but the worship was so good I just wanted to continue to worship. We did explore the words in Luke 1:35 and the word that is used, “overshadowed.” It is saying that the Holy Spirit of God overshadowed Mary and she conceived. Some people have trouble with that and just don’t have the faith to believe that is possible. So they come up with the idea that it was an angel that mated with Mary. (Now that takes faith too!! The angel in our story is only a messenger. Where they get that idea from I don’t know.)

But this word overshadowed is used in other places of the scriptures to describe the move of God upon his creation. Just one example is Matthew 17:5 on the mount known as the Mount of Transfiguration. The presence of God overshadowed them and they heard God speak to them. They were enveloped in the presence of God!

The challenge is that everywhere the presence of God shows up, things change. Lives are changed! But when I consider Mary, I wonder if it was according to her plans? She probably had a young woman idea of what her life was going to be like after she was married. Then that angel came with news that her life was not going to be as she had planned!

If God showed up in your life, would you be ready for a change of plans? That is the challenging question.

Blessings, Pastor Chuck. Next Sunday, “Of wise men and kings”

In other news:

We will be open for public worship services Sunday. STRICT regulations are being kept regarding facemasks. Service will also be LIVE on Facebook. You do not need an account. But as San Carlos is growing and it adds more demand on the available wifi service providers, it affects the upload of our video feed. If the “live” feed you are receiving is interrupted we encourage you to please return and go the page and bring up “Videos” and you will find the recorded video for each Sunday.
