It is a good Day, Hello!  Fish Fry, I have had fried fish many times, but I have never been to a fish fry. This Thursday at the church at 5:30 pm we are having a fish fry to benefit our Benevolence Fund. It is not just about eating fish either, but about being together for an informal meal.  The idea is you bring a friend and a dessert and come out and eat and visit. It is about community. Something I think we are good at. So, come join us and hey, my first fish fry!

Several weeks ago a house near the church was having a party. As it was winding down for the night, we at the church were winding up with a morning worship service. As we finished the service and were outside and visiting, a young lady heard the worship music, and came over from the party. The end of the story was that she knew the party was not where she should be. She came home with my wife and I, had lunch and the we drove her home. The party scene was just what she did because it was what her friends did and she knew she had better choices. We offered her one. She had been raised in a Christian home and that is why the worship music attracted her. Some people do what others do and need to know a better alternative. That takes me to Easter.

Easter is coming up. Good Friday is April 15. Here in Mexico many of the people celebrate with parties and excessive late night drinking. The town of San Carlos has the capacity to fill up with beach goeres and all night parties. In the last two years the police have controlled this to an almost non event.  But some us suspect that this year with less restrictions that there will be a lot of partiers here for the weekend.

I have been praying about what to do to reach the people during this Easter event. Then last week a couple of men came to the church and gave me 20 cases of a book in Spanish. The book is called, “Historias de la Vida Real.”  I think even as an English speaker you can figure out that title. They are filled with testimonies of people who came to Jesus. It seems provisional. I have an idea and will continue to watch and pray and see if the opportunity presents itself. The idea is to take cases of bottled water and put inside these books a short leaflet about the church and the love of God and go to the main street and pass out these books and a bottle of water with an invitation to visit the church on Easter Sunday. Pray with me as I continue to see how God may unfold this opportunity.

Baptism; a couple of people are interested in being baptized. We have a pool available to us. If you have not been baptized as a believer and this interests you, please let Pastor Chuck or Pastor Mayra know. We want to set aside Sunday April 17, which is Easter Sunday, and we have a lesson to go through with you before you are baptized.

Sunday; This Sunday we celebrated the Lord’s Table, or if you prefer in your tradition, the Communion Table. We examined just what did Jesus mean when he spoke about himself as the bread of life, this is my body and this is my blood. And then invited his hearers to eat and drink. (John 6.) It was far beyond strange!! But why did he say this?

It was an invitation to partake of himself. Not in some form of cannibalism, but to believe in him as the very substance of life. To believe in Jesus is not just the historical Jesus but the very essence of who he is in his teachings and his practice of life. Even more to believe in the death and resurrection of Jesus as a historical FACT and what the truth is that is communicated to us in that fact.

When Jesus says to take his blood, it is the very essence of life. The life is in the blood. To take his blood was to take on the life of Christ in and through me. When I take part in the Lord’s Table it is in remembrance of him and what he did, but it is a declaration of what I am prepared to do! To say I am taking in and on the very essence of Jesus to live in and through me. That is the challenge for us today!
