It is a good Day, Hello!   While I think of it, there is a “Going away Party” at my home this Wednesday at 5:30. It is potluck, but we will supply coffee, tea, and water otherwise bring what you wish. We should have had this party a couple of weeks ago. We thought we were doing a fair job of visiting and keeping up with so many leaving but just couldn’t catch everyone, so lets just all get together. Hence the potluck. Please come! (even if you are not leaving)

Easter weekend is over, but the town of San Carlos is still very busy. So many people have discovered San Carlos. However more of our U.S. and Canadian friends are heading north.  And even with this ‘exodus’ of Americans we have some surprises this spring. The Men’s Breakfast had 24 men on Thursday. That is not suppose to happen at this time of year. But men are attending the breakfast as if it was peak season. And our attendance numbers at Sunday services are up more than expected for this season too. I really don’t have an explanation for this except San Carlos as a town is growing! If you have been away for a couple of years and return, it may surprise you how much has changed.

What still sits heavy on my heart is that each week people head north and I know they will be absent for several months and maybe the circumstance of life will just prevent their return. That is never a good thought. I really don’t like the ‘good-bye.’ Can I encourage you to keep in touch? The town is still much the same just growing. As always we must watch for cows and horses wandering our streets. It is surprising where they show up. We all were sad when La Palapa Griega burned to the ground, but already they are rebuilding. Some things are the same, somethings change.

Sunday Pastor Mayra brought us a message about “Abiding in Christ.” Her text was John 15:4. But rather than stay with the definition of the words she explained to us that to abide in Christ was to stay in close with Him. It is about relationship and deep friendship. You just don’t obtain that in religion and the practice of going to church. That is just the practice, but not the relationship with Jesus in personal terms.

She explained from verse 5 that to abide in Christ means that you will reproduce what is Christ like qualities. The evidence of my abiding in Him is that I will be growing in my similarity to Him. It is about growth. Here is a quote from her message, If I abide in Him and in His words, that is what I will care to feed me, the Holy Spirit will increase our appetite for more of HIM.” The abiding in Him will increase my desire for more of Him and that is partially dependent on my pursuit or aim. Do I pursue Jesus and feed on his word? Or am I feeding my self on all the products of this world? The things of the world just never satisfy.

To focus on my relationship with Jesus is a discipline for sure. There is so much to distract me from Him. The world has so many attractive offers. But I need to keep making my choice.

We make the choices all the time. At the café, it is what coffee do you want, with sugar or sweetener. At the Cookie Sunday event, it is a decision of sugar cookies or fruit! And the same with Jesus or the world, what will I choose?

Mayra did well in unfolding this text to us. But to really get a better grasp of what she taught, you should listen to the Sunday message on the SCCC website or go to our SCCC Facebook page and look for “Videos.”

Blessings, Pastor Chuck.  This coming Sunday, we begin a series on the ‘who’ of the Holy Spirit.
