Good Morning SCCC Family,

Almost Christmas – only a week to go. Gentlemen, have you gone shipping for your bride yet? Don’t get caught buying that thing she really doesn’t want. I know you barely have the time, but if you don’t do it before the weekend, you know what’s going to happen! You’ve been warned, but you already knew all that, right?  You are welcome ladies! Merry Christmas to you all as celebrate the season.

How exciting to announce that the special offering for Pastor David and the folks at the Spanish church next door came to 24,650 pesos. Wow, so grateful for your generous giving. It was so much fun to turn the funds over to him and to know that they will be used to build the Lord’s Kingdom in La Manga. Pastor David’s words: “I’m overwhelmed.” Hats off to you all!

Changes to Cookie Sunday every second and fourth Sunday of the month from here on in. Please be encouraged to connect with guests and/or folks you’re not familiar with at this fellowship time provided for that purpose. We are grateful to all those who provide the cookies, to those who take the time to set them out and to serve them for our convenience. Please know how much this ministry is appreciated! If you can help by baking / bringing some cookies for next Sunday (Jan 23), it will surely be appreciated!

Mark Mulligan (Benefit Concert) coming in January 8, 2019 (6:00 PM) – Yes, we are hosting a CD release party for Mark’s brand new, inspirational CD “the Rising Son”. I received the very first copy, hot off the press, last Sunday and you won’t be disappointed. This will be a great night to bring some friends and celebrate with Mark and in turn to raise some fund for both our benevolence fund and for Mark’s Outreach ministries.

From the Women’s Ministry ot SCCC:

  • The ladies at the prison have all they need re: place settings.  If anyone wants to give, they need sundry items, bath towels or cash would be great. Thanks to everyone who gave so generously.
  • Winter bible study will run from Jan. 16 – Feb. 27.  Missing Pieces” by Jennifer Rothschild is about real hope when life doesn’t make sense.
  • There will be a Facilitator’s meeting on Jan. 8, 2019 for this winter study.

Back Packs – So grateful for all of you who came to help fill the backpacks yesterday. You can also be a part of the distribution of these back packs. Please contact Art at 406 539 9600 for further information. The following schedule gives the date and time they will be handed out.:

  • Saturday Jan. 12, 11 am, San Bernardo

Israel Trip Update from Brenda Koenes: December 17, 2018 Update:

  • We reset the dates for November 10-19, 2019 so we will return in time for thanksgiving..
  • There will be two prices listed in the brochure, which comes out in the new year.
    • Option #1 Book only the land portion of the Tour and arrange your own flights. This may make for better options flying out of Mexico and the Southern states.
    • Option #2 – Buy the full tour, which will include return flights from Calgary..
  • Payments can be made by check or e-deposits from Canada. If using a credit card they add a 3% fee.
  • All prices will be quoted in US FUNDS.

Deacon & Elder Nominations are now open and will remain open until Jan. 13, 2019. As congregational members, we look for your input in prayerfully nominating potential leaders to fill the following roles:

  • Three deacons will complete their first term of service at the 2019 AGM. They are Brandon Baird, David Campbell and Christie Forester. All 3 are eligible for re nomination for another 3 year term.
  • We also have openings for two, (possibly three) more new deacons this year (for a total of six deacons) as a result of a previously unfilled position and by recent / potential upcoming moves.
  • We would like to add two additional elders to our elder team at SCCC. Presently we have two elders: Grant Dafoe, and John New.
  • Qualifications for both roles will be available as a handout on Dec. 16 and/or via “Pastor’s Desk”

On a sad note, Chuck Morton asked to be relieved of his Elder duties yesterday. Chuck’s personal health as well as Carol’s ongoing health issues have precipitated this need. We are grateful for everything Chuck has added to our lives through his service as an elder and a deacon. We value their friendship and will continue to value their friendship into the future. We continue to pray for strength for them as they travel this difficult journey.

The SCCC Benevolence Fund has been so well utilized that we are now in a shortfall position of $2600 USD and most likely this will increase by year end as we see more needs being directed our way. Thus we will continue our former practice of taking up a second offering on every Communion Sunday. (first Sunday of the month, beginning on January 6). We also hope to have special events to bring the Fund up to allow for those in need in emergency situations to be looked after.”

Thanks to all who came out to our evening Leadership Review last Thursday. I pray you were encouraged by the desire of your church leadership to be true to the core values of Scripture, the core values of SCCC and our desire to be a church whose very reason for existence is that “all may hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ and choose to follow Him.” We truly are a “community” church focusing on the core values of the Word of God. Dinner for Six – coming in January! You can sign up with our facilitator, Marilyn Hicks.

Our Focus last week in the Service was Ebeneezer Scrooge, Charlie Brown & Luke 2.

  • Jeannine’s takeaway – Men should shop for their wives prior to Christmas Eve!
  • Glenn’s Intent – Men will never change without their wives help!
  • However, We can all change our Christmas future by making a decision to follow Christ during our Christmas present! In response to that challenge, four of the folks in the service raised their hands, indicating they wanted to invite Jesus into their hearts. What a great reason to celebrate Christmas!

Have a great week,
Pastor Glenn & Jeannine
