Pastor’s Desk

It is a good Day, Mother’s Day, it is a big event here in Mexico. Tuesday is their official day. And a lot of women here are given a holiday. It seems the celebration starts Sunday. You got to love Mexico, any cause for a celebration!  On Sunday my wife and I went out for brunch after church. The restaurant was giving special drinks and a decorated cup cake to all the ladies. It was a pleasant surprise.

At SCCC, a donation made it possible for us to purchase 3 dozen roses for the ladies. The ladies were greeted by Pastor Mayra at the door and they received a rose. Then after worship service there was cake on the church veranda. A big thank you to those who made Sunday special! Your efforts are appreciated.

This week, the painting in the balcony will begin. The plan is to have the decorating done by month end. I don’t know how we are going to paint the walls to match the brick colours and I am sure there will be lots of ideas. It is best not left to me to decide the colour, I am all for something pink! Then maybe some pictures of snow capped Montana mountains!

Outside the church we have some new plants in the yard and soon some new pots on the veranda. And as you drive down main street, look in the area of klm 9 marker in the median strip, you will see the signs for the SCCC youth group ministry. Next are the plants! Thank you for your donations. Pastor Mayra is looking for low maintence plants.

Right Now Media. SCCC has taken a one year membership with Rightnow Media. We expect to launch this resource next week! It contains biblical educational videos that have accompanying study books that compliment the video, these can be used for group study or personal study. The studies available are of books of the Bible and also some that are topical. There are resources for adults, men, women, teens and videos teaching for children. I also found ‘conference’ videos that you can take advantage of. The purpose of SCCC is to give you the resources to explore your faith and grow in Christian maturity.

This membership provides for us material in English and Spanish, so it suits our church community very well. Please take advantage of this material and let us know what you think.

Sunday was celebrated at SCCC with a Mother’s Day message, about lessons that I learned from my mother. It was a personal message. She was raised in her parent’s home; her mother was a teacher and her father was a minister. I really benefited getting a Christian foundation for my life from her upbringing. I shared 8 lessons that I learned from her, and also some lessons were manners. The base of her life was evidently from the Bible. Proper manners were very important too. I shared those too. Maybe some of them I could have shared more delicately!

I remember telling my own children how important proper table manners were. My mother was at the table. Right there in front of my children, she stuck out her tongue and touched her nose. The kids laughed and I scolded my mother.

I think we can learn a lot from Proverbs 1:8, “My son do not forget the instructions of your father and the teachings of your mother.”  There are still many lessons to learn and wisdom we can pass on.

Blessings, Pastor Chuck.  This coming Sunday, we continue our series on “Who is the Holy Spirit?”
