Pastor’s Desk

It is a Good Day,  I would like to take this opportunity to share a report by our Children and Youth pastor. Her name is Mayra and she does an excellent job of youth and children’s pastor and much more.

Children’s Ministry Pastor Mayra is planning a Vacation Bible School this summer on August 3-5, the kids from the church can invite their friends and neighbors. The program includes a message from the Bible, crafts, games, snacks and a time of worship.

Every Sunday we have “Adventures with God” where the kids learn stories from the Bible, worship time, activities and games. Sometimes the parents invite Pastor Mayra to visit them and we share some time together.

Each Sunday before going to the children’s church, the children go to the front of the church for prayer. It reminds the church that these children are the future of our church.

Youth Ministry We have been working on some projects with the youth, we have a section in the main street of San Carlos with a sign that was donated for our youth group. It is at Klm marker 22, nearest the big rock. The youth group are decorating this area, last time we went to place some rocks with white paint to make the space more presentable and we are going to start adding some desert plants to the area.

Music lessons, on Fridays before the Youth Group Meeting, the youth have a class with Absalon Jauna (also a minister in Guaymas), he first began teaching them the basics of music and now they are starting to learn songs, the goal is to have a youth worship band for Friday services and also minister some day in the Sunday morning service. We bought some instruments that were needed for the classes, the drums are an electric set and an electric acoustic guitar. We are looking for another piano since the one they passed on us is a really a good piano but some keys are not working. Not all of the youth were interested in the classes but the ones that said yes are faithful.

Bible Study, some weeks we have meetings for Bible Study and discipleship, sometimes we cook together or just play after the study. The youth enjoy both the cooking together and the games.

Serving Together, we have been training the youth in different areas of service in the church, video/sound, computer Slides, delivering translation devices, computer with kids, teaching to children, little by little this group of volunteers have been growing. The youth are a vital part of the Sunday worship service. We hope they learn to love the church and serve faithfully. We encourage our volunteers with a monthly coffee day out where we can connect and spend time together.

Outreaches, during Semana Santa we went out to the main street to give away literature and water to the people in their cars with Pastor Chuck, Mark & Patricia Knaak. Pastor Chuck’s wife, Lynn waited for us in their house to have food ready for us when we were back and they hosted the youth for two nights. The youth were a little timid at the beginning giving away the books and stepping out to meet people, but the last day they went chasing cars and people to give them the books.

Also, we attended some youth events that we were invited to. Last Friday we received a visit from 2 different churches, one in Nogales and the other from Navojoa, we hope the youth will make more friends that share their faith and be encouraged.

These are some of the activities we are involved with besides our Friday Youth Group Meetings, some pajama Parties, celebrate special holidays, and always with a Bible message, some food & drinks, games and times to connect. We are going to have a Youth Conference on August with the participation of other churches youth groups. We appreciate your support and investment in this generation, May God be your Rewarder.

Written by Pastor Mayra and edited by Pastor Chuck for this purpose.

Sunday, It was so good to be back. I confessed that sometimes I would be happy just to sit on my stool on the platform and just look at the people. Talk with them all and maybe share a cookie. (oh, yes, thanks to Mark, Patricia, Christina and the youth for starting our summer Cookie Sunday. It was awesome)

But I am expected to teach the Word of God on Sunday. I spoke from Mark 9. It is about the father who brings his son to Jesus and the disciples for healing and deliverance from demons who make him mute, and throw him in fire and in water. It seemed like no one could help him. He asked Jesus, “If you can…” Jesus replied with a bit of a rebuke. My paraphrase would be, “What do you mean if I can? Of course I can. Where is your faith?”

Understanding that the father’s life was full of disappointment. He was believing in Jesus but with all this in his life, the history of seizures, had been since the son’s childhood, it was no wonder he had doubts.

So in our lives we can be believers but still wrestle with the days of doubts. But the challenge is, will I still pursue Jesus in faith even though I may have days of doubt. Yes!

Blessings, Pastor Chuck.  Next Sunday, “The Secret of Prayer is ….”

Right Now Media. Is ready! SCCC has taken a one year membership with Rightnow Media. We are offering this resource to SCCC. I love using Rightnow Media and am very excited that you will be able to have this material resource too! It contains biblical educational videos that have accompanying study books that compliment the video, these can be used for group study or personal study. The studies available are of books of the Bible and also some that are topical. There are resources for adults, men, women, teens and videos teaching for children. I also found ‘conference’ videos that you can take advantage of. In all there are 20,000 videos available. That is a lot of education and inspiration material. The purpose of SCCC in offering this to you is to give you the resources to explore your faith and grow in Christian maturity.

This membership provides for us material in English and Spanish, so it suits our church community very well. Please take advantage of this material and let us know what you think!
