Pastor’s Desk

It is a good Day, It has been an unusual summer. The ocean has been rougher than usual. The weather has been as expected and we had rain this last week. Our first rain in seven months. Church attendance has been more than expected for this season and so has men’s breakfast group! I sure enjoy those morning fellowship times.

We are seeing a lot of new families in our church and I, as a pastor, am delighted to meet them. I miss the ones absent and if that is you, come on back, or at least write to us. These seasons and miles make us seem so detached.

As my wife and I drive about the town we are in awe at the changes in our town. New restaurants and new homes and condos are popping up everywhere. Changes are taking place before our eyes. In these changes are also new people.

We are making some steps to up our game to meet these people. For example, it was suggested I contact a pastor in Cancun. So, I wrote to him an email. And before he replied, he first went to different social media platforms and searched about myself and this church. Then he wrote me back and then we talked on the phone. One man, now in our church, says he watched us on FB for about a year before he started to attend. Now every Sunday he is in church and every Thursday he is at men’s breakfast. But this tells me that people investigate through these media platforms first.

We have been in consultation with a lady who is way more versed in web sites, and social media for church use. She has been coaching us on better practices and use of what we have in use. We are trying to make use of her suggestions and this year we will also have a new website online. It will be so much easier to use for simple folk like me! Watch for the changes. And don’t be shy about writing in to us or making a review about SCCC with your comments.

Hurry home everyone!

Sunday, we looked at the business of taking inventory. My wife and I had a big detailed list when we moved our belonging to Mexico. It was suppose to speed up the process. Then when we unpacked in Mexico, we questioned why we kept some of these things. Well I guess at one time we just were not sure where we would be and what to keep.

But there is another inventory I need to do. It is mine. Who am I? What are my strengths and weaknesses and what should I be working on? Now this is not about some self-help meditation, but it is knowing myself better. I need to learn how I can improve to be a better man for my community and for the Lord. We need to be real about who we are, and what brought us to be this person.

And maybe for you, you have always been a great unmarred person. But most of us carry shame and guilt form our former ways. It is like a monster that sneaks up on us. Constantly bringing up needs and lusts to fill a void, that is already met by Jesus. But the deceit is there. These monsters cry out from our past days.

In Ephesians 4:22 it says we need to put off our former self with its deceitful lusts. Then in verse 24 it says we need to put on our new self in the likeness of God. But how can I do that with these monsters of my past lurking around me?

Obviously, I need to go to Christ with my sin and shame and confess these and leave them there. Sounds so simple and easy when said like that. But it is verse 23 that is the mechanics of it all. Being renewed in my mind. And that is an exercise. I need to continue to submit my thoughts to Him. Change my way of thinking with purpose. Push off the feeling with knowledge and prayer. Knowing I am new, and not that old person. Oh, it takes discipline and work on my part. Perhaps it is, but the rewards are growth to be a better suited person for Jesus and my community.

Blessings, Pastor Chuck.  Next Sunday, “The Place of Confession.”

Right Now Media. Is ready! SCCC has taken a one year membership with Rightnow Media. We are offering this resource to SCCC. I love using Rightnow Media and am very excited that you will be able to have this material resource too! It contains biblical educational videos that have accompanying study books that compliment the video, these can be used for group study or personal study. The studies available are of books of the Bible and also some that are topical. There are resources for adults, men, women, teens and videos teaching for children. I also found ‘conference’ videos that you can take advantage of. In all there are 20,000 videos available. That is a lot of education and inspiration material. The purpose of SCCC in offering this to you is to give you the resources to explore your faith and grow in Christian maturity.

This membership provides for us material in English and Spanish, so it suits our church community very well. Please take advantage of this material and let us know what you think.
