It is a good Day, This morning I wake up to the sound of the wind. It is blowing in off the ocean and rattles my ‘loose’ patio doors. A little bit more rain and lightening!

Vacation Bible School is this week. I thought we were having a smaller size event, but when I walk into the old wing of the church building, surprise! Then I went to the sanctuary and look, they have been there too. It is all set up for the event too. The decorations are up and teens and ladies are working to set it all up for this event. They put so much effort into the 3 day event. It is very impressive. I think they enjoy the getting ready, perhaps as much as the event itself. The theme this year is “Roar.”  What dedication! And then by Sunday they have it cleaned up for us old people to return and we won’t even know they were there.

Then the next week is the youth conference. There are three worship bands coming in and various speakers. From my previous observations of youth events at the church this will be top drawer event. I have made the joke that the cry room will be the observation room for us older people. In there we can be safe from the volume of music. But I pray that all who attend will be met by the Holy Spirit of God.

The purpose of both of these events is that people will encounter God. The method is just a little different. I am looking forward to attending both of these. Actually attending the events will be easy, my office is right there at the church. There will be no escape unless I run away to the coffee shop. In actuality, I am excited to see these events and witness God meeting the younger people. More on that next week.

If you can, drop in and see what is taking place, email me, or please email or speak to Pastor Mayra about the work she is doing.

Hurry home everyone!

Sunday, was excellent. I often hear the worship team practicing each week, and then again early on Sunday morning. Sometimes I wonder how they will pull it off. In other words, I am not too encouraged by what I hear in practice. Then Sunday worship service, it is all systems go. And it all falls into place. It really comes off so much better. I think God just steps in and uses the team as they have presented themselves for just that purpose.

This Sunday was just that. I am so impressed by the gifts, talents and willingness of people to step onto the platform to lead us in worship. And here is a thought. I go each Sunday prepared to worship and meet God. Not out of professionism (?) but in my desire. And I encounter the Spirit of God. I suspect that when people go to church and don’t meet the Spirit of God it is that they have brought the ugliness of the week with them, or not come prepared or expecting to meet God. And that is easy to do. In times past, I have done that too.

In short, I am proud of SCCC and the people who put themselves forward to lead us in worship.

This past Sunday I spoke about the place of confession. How necessary it is for personal health and the health of your community. We looked at the parable of the prodigal son in Luke 15. Jesus taught this parable to show the love of the father. And we looked at the confession of the son. It was to himself, to God and to his father. And the response of the father was epic! Then read about the older son. I can’t be too harsh on him. I am not sure if given the same place my first response to the event would not have been any better. This son was angry and hurt. He confessed that to his father. But he was really ‘put out’ by the place he found himself in and the grace that his father was displaying.

Now can you imagine the different story if the younger son had returned and just be put into the place he expected? To be put into the place of servitude. That is all he expected. What an unhealthy family and community that would have been.

But I admire the younger son. His confession was sincere. It was not that he had been caught and needed to say sorry. No, it was a heart honest recognition of his wrong. Too often we hear confessions with an excuse in them. People will say, “I did the wrong thing, I am sorry but …..” And that ‘but’ is usually the cover up. Or they say, “I am sorry, it was a mistake that should have not happened.”  Which is like saying it was beyond my control etc. The ‘mistake’ word is a softer word than admitting a wrong.

The son in our parable took a great place of humility. And often we fail to confess our wrong, because we can’t step into humility, because we are too prideful to do so. It took a push into the pig pen for the younger son to get to that place of humility. We should be quick to recognize our wrongs, step into humility and make the confession, to ourselves, to God and to another person.

Blessings, Pastor Chuck.  Next Sunday, “Forgiveness.”

Right Now Media. Is ready! SCCC has taken a one year membership with Rightnow Media. We are offering this resource to SCCC. I love using Rightnow Media and am very excited that you will be able to have this material resource too! It contains biblical educational videos that have accompanying study books that compliment the video, these can be used for group study or personal study. The studies available are of books of the Bible and also some that are topical. There are resources for adults, men, women, teens and videos teaching for children. I also found ‘conference’ videos that you can take advantage of. In all there are 20,000 videos available. That is a lot of education and inspiration material. The purpose of SCCC in offering this to you is to give you the resources to explore your faith and grow in Christian maturity.

This membership provides for us material in English and Spanish, so it suits our church community very well. Please take advantage of this material and let us know what you think.
