It is a good Day; Summer is ending. We do have different seasons. Up north I see people are bringing in their harvest from the fields and gardens. People are thinking of what needs to be done for the next season. And here in Sonora Mexico, we are watching too. Another month and we will see a quick change of weather. Also, what will change is the demographics of our community. It is funny to watch, there will be less Mexicans on the beach, as it is too cold for them, and more white skin colours as people come, who think this is so “nice and warm.” With that change of season our church changes too.

I will stand at the door and each week see more people return as they escape winter. It is like a family reunion. I like it. But in my excitement to see these faces, I will get the names wrong. But my mother use to do that too. She would get excited about something we did as kids, and start going through all our names, maybe even the family dog’s name too, until she got the right name for us. Did that ever happen in your house? I bet it did, but what if you didn.t have a dog?

And with all the change of seasons, those coming in will have new faces here to see and meet. We have several new families that have joined us this year. We also have programs and plans to put into place as we begin another time in the life of SCCC. I am looking forward to a future of continuing the life of SCCC.

Here is a message from Hannah. “We will be having a church potluck Wednesday, September 28th. We hope many of you will be able to attend!

Since it is a luck of the pot type of meal then we need your help in supplying a dish. The church will be providing a type of meat. Possibly shredded chicken, pork or something of the like. If you would like to come and enjoy some good food and fellowship then please sign up after church for the following two Sunday’s. We will ask that if your last name begins with A-G please bring a salad and soda, letters H-M a main or side dish and lastly N-Z a dessert.  The sign-up sheet will be for the dish you plan on bringing and anyone who is willing and available to help with set up and clean up. Looking forward to seeing you all there!  Thank you, Hannah.”

With that I will say, hurry home everyone, you are missed! I am looking forward to your stories.

Sunday, Denver opened Luke 4:1-13 and it was the story of the temptation of Jesus. Jesus was in the desert for 40 days and faced many temptations. The devil kept coming to Jesus to test him on his humanity and divinity. The devil wasn’t so much trying to destroy Jesus but it was to disrupt his mission on earth. If the purpose of Jesus coming to save could be disrupted, then Jesus was entirely destroyed. If Jesus could be distracted from his purpose then it was all that was needed. Jesus then was reduced to being a prophet!

And so it is with us. If the devil could distract us from accomplishing what Jesus has for us and the destiny he has made us for; if we could be taken off on to a journey of our own design, then we have failed before God. The devil just wants us to live for ourselves and not for the purposes of God!  Which are we doing?

By resisting the temptations offered to him, Jesus was proving he was only about the purposes of God and that he was the Son of God. Likewise, each time we fend off the temptations to seek our own, we prove we are servants, even children of God, aimed only at pleasing God and not ourselves.

To resist what I am tempted to do, that I should not do, sure I can quote Scriptures. But I also should just apply logic and think through what is taking place and where the path goes should I accept a different path and follow the offer given by ‘giving in.’

Personally, I start to pray and giving thanks for all I have, that I can verify I have received from God. I start to worship and no temptation or evil thought can stand in the presence of worship.

We surrendered to Jesus in faith for salvation. We need to continue in surrender for the ability to accomplish his will for our lives.

Thank you Denver for bringing us that message on Sunday.

Blessings, Pastor Chuck.  Next Sunday, Pastor Mayra is bringing the message.

Right Now Media. Is ready! SCCC has taken a one year membership with Rightnow Media. We are offering this resource to SCCC. I love using Rightnow Media and am very excited that you will be able to have this material resource too! It contains biblical educational videos that have accompanying study books that compliment the video, these can be used for group study or personal study. The studies available are of books of the Bible and also some that are topical. There are resources for adults, men, women, teens and videos teaching for children. I also found ‘conference’ videos that you can take advantage of. In all there are 20,000 videos available. That is a lot of education and inspiration material. The purpose of SCCC in offering this to you is to give you the resources to explore your faith and grow in Christian maturity.

This membership provides for us material in English and Spanish, so it suits our church community very well. Please take advantage of this material and let us know what you think.
