It is a good Day; Up and down roads and travelling. Lynn and I went exploring this week. We went from sea level to over 9000 feet. In that time, we saw the beauty of the creation of God. So often we just marvel at what we see. We were treated to fine hospitality, yet still we are glad to get home. We have experienced that the people of SCCC extend hospitality from any place they can.

Sunday, we attended a large church, with two services of over 400 people each service. The worship service has dimmed lighting, big screens, and camera ‘men’ taking different angles for those watching on line services. And a production team full of computers, and sound boards that were massive! So many wires, cables, and switches. I met John. He has actually been to SCCC and in his church operates the overhead camera boom! He had a warning. When something goes wrong in this technology, everything goes wrong!

It was a good worship experience, but inside, I just wanted to worship with my own friends of SCCC. I must figure out how to take my vacation (recreation) time and still be with SCCC! I know we will be glad to be with you this coming Sunday.

Here is a message from Hannah. “We will be having a church potluck Wednesday, September 28th. We hope many of you will be able to attend!

Since it is a luck of the pot type of meal then we need your help in supplying a dish. The church will be providing a type of meat. Possibly shredded chicken, pork or something of the like. If you would like to come and enjoy some good food and fellowship then please sign up after church for the following two Sunday’s. We will ask that if your last name begins with A-G please bring a salad and soda, letters H-M a main or side dish and lastly N-Z a dessert.  The sign-up sheet will be for the dish you plan on bringing and anyone who is willing and available to help with set up and clean up. Looking forward to seeing you all there!  Thank you, Hannah.”

I wrote to you this week, asking on behalf of the family, to pray for Howard Dyck. Please continue to pray and we will keep you informed as we learn more. In my heart I yearn for the healing of all among us who are sick or troubled.

Sunday, Pastor Mayra spoke about serving. From Matthew 20:26. If we want to be great amongst others, we first have to be the servant. That really goes against the normal thinking. Then using the example from 1 Kings she told us the story of Elijah and Elisha. Elisha was the servant of Elijah the prophet. He was the one who poured water into the hands of Elijah so that he could wash.

Yet later Elisha was known for doing even greater miracles than his master. In his years of service, he had shown his humility and developed a quality of character that could hold the gift of God. But too often I have seen that is what lacks in some of God’s servants. They took the gift that God gives them to serve with and then stopped developing character that had greater capacity for godliness and humility.

Mayra was challenging us to serve, and I think that goes beyond the church services. Can we just have a posture to be servants of others as we continue to follow Jesus and grow into greater maturity? I caught the one sentence she said, something along the line of ‘willing to serve, even if you didn’t have a title.’ Which comes down to, serving without anyone noticing, or even saying, “Thank you.”

Thank you Mayra for a good reminder to be poured out in out serving.

Blessings, Pastor Chuck.  Next Sunday, I will be sharing about the Practice of Contact. Matthew 26:36-45. Invited to be in dialogue with Jesus (that could be the message title too)

Right Now Media. Is ready! SCCC has taken a one year membership with Rightnow Media. We are offering this resource to SCCC. I love using Rightnow Media and am very excited that you will be able to have this material resource too! It contains biblical educational videos that have accompanying study books that compliment the video, these can be used for group study or personal study. The studies available are of books of the Bible and also some that are topical. There are resources for adults, men, women, teens and videos teaching for children. I also found ‘conference’ videos that you can take advantage of. In all there are 20,000 videos available. That is a lot of education and inspiration material. The purpose of SCCC in offering this to you is to give you the resources to explore your faith and grow in Christian maturity.

This membership provides for us material in English and Spanish, so it suits our church community very well. Please take advantage of this material and let us know what you think.
