It is a good Day; For the first time in a while, we had no visitors. I think that is only the fourth time that has happened on a Sunday this year. But we did have three couples return to church that had been away for the summer. People are starting the winter migration back to SCCC.

Let me remind you that this Sunday is Cookie Sunday on the church veranda after the worship service. Please come, and bring some cookies.

This evening, Wednesday 28, is our first church potluck dinner in a very long time. Thank you to all those who stepped into place to assist Hannah in organizing this event. Next week I will tell you about how much fun and fellowship we had. But if you still have not signed up for this and plan to attend, here is an idea of what you can bring.

We will ask that if your last name begins with A-G please bring a salad and soda, letters H-M a main or side dish and lastly N-Z a dessert. Thank you, Hannah.”

Please continue to pray for Howard D. He is the director of C.E.C., the school next to the church. For some reason the doctors cannot determine he has inflammation of the brain. Susan writes to me that he is responding to antibiotics. The recovery time is months, and they do not know how long that will keep Howard hospitalized.  Please continue to pray and we will keep you informed as we learn more. In my heart I yearn for the healing of all among us who are sick or troubled.

One more request. Stephen and Alexander, are returning to SCCC in three weeks. They did a clothing drive at their church in Pine Top, AZ. to supply orphanages and the friends at a fishing village. It was so successful they have more than they can carry in one trip. They would meet with someone in AZ to share the load with them. You can contact then directly or through the SCCC office to help and work out the details.

Sunday, This Sunday I spoke from Matthew 26, the story of the time in the Garden of Gethsemane when Jesus was praying. We didn’t look so much at what Jesus prayed but more about the response of the eleven who went with him.
Did you notice that he invited them to attend with him to the garden to pray? Then he asked some to wait here under the trees. Three others, James, John and Peter he took further down the path and invited them to pray WITH him. (26:36-38) He stepped away a bit and prayed. The three were left to pray or to watch with him.

What would you do if Jesus invited you? How would you respond?

Three times Jesus invited them to pray with him. Three times the roaster crowed that night and Peter made a denial and then Jesus restored Peter three times back to relationship. Oh it may have been very different if they had chosen not to sit and watch (sleep!) but got up and were beside Jesus shoulder to shoulder and prayed with him!  Foe instance, a man would have not had an ear cut off, and a servant girl would not have heard a fisherman curse; many events that night may have taken a different turn.

Mostly I think of Peter. The shame and self-imposed agony of the days to come would not have been his if he had pushed himself to be shoulder to shoulder with Jesus in the garden and praying with Jesus.

What about us?

Right Now Media. Is ready! SCCC has taken a one year membership with Rightnow Media. We are offering this resource to SCCC. I love using Rightnow Media and am very excited that you will be able to have this material resource too! It contains biblical educational videos that have accompanying study books that compliment the video, these can be used for group study or personal study. The studies available are of books of the Bible and also some that are topical. There are resources for adults, men, women, teens and videos teaching for children. I also found ‘conference’ videos that you can take advantage of. In all there are 20,000 videos available. That is a lot of education and inspiration material. The purpose of SCCC in offering this to you is to give you the resources to explore your faith and grow in Christian maturity.

This membership provides for us material in English and Spanish, so it suits our church community very well. Please take advantage of this material and let us know what you think.
