Pastor’s Desk-Do you want to see a movie?

Chuck Sheridan Avatar

It is a good Day; Sure is busy. This week Mark Mulligan is putting on a benefit show at the church for the Benevolence Fund and his favoured charity, Outreach for World of Hope. The event starts at 6 pm Thursday. The event is free and there will be an opportunity for your giving to support these charities.

I wear eyes glasses. Yes they are scratched and the prescription is a little old. But I am blessed I can afford them. How about you? Casa de Esperanza is hosting a free eye clinic this week. It is a ministry to the Mexican people who cannot afford eyeglasses. Contact this office to connect or follow Koenes Ministries to volunteer or if you want to donate old eye glasses.

Next Monday is movie night. The movie is Samson. He was one of the judges that we read of in the Bible. His name is well known as super strong and something about his hair. Even people who don’t go to church know a little of the story. Samson was a Nazarite and had taken a vow before God never to cut his hair, not to touch anything dead and not to drink any alcohol. He failed in all of these yet God still used him!  The movie is an action-romance story. It presents Samson in a new picture that I had never thought of. You maybe surprised with this story. It is biblical. It is rated PG13. Hey and we do have free popcorn. Lots of popcorn! PLEASE bring a friend. Six p.m. at the church.

Going further on this page you will see dates for Missionfest is January 29. What is this event? It is the opportunity for you to learn a bit more about the nine missions and ministries we support. They will be available after the service to tell you about what they are doing. Also please bring a salad or/and dessert to share. The meal and viewing of missions will be on the veranda after the morning service.

Howard D. He is home, as is Susan, Denver and Katie. But please don’t rush over and visit. The family needs to settle in and Howard tires easily. So contact a family member about a visit before you go. Kathryn is organizing freezer meals for Susan. Please contact her at teitzelk@hotmail.com   to participate.

They urgently are in a need of a fully functional hospital bed. One that rises up and down and reclines and rises to sitting position etc. Also needed are new eggcrate mattresses. Preferably single size.

Please do not telephone the house. Right now they prefer email. susandyck@ethnos.ca   (Notice .ca  Don’t be surprised if your email suggests .com which it is not)

Since they left Canada to return home, medical expenses are covered on their own, please consider and contribute to the account to help the family with costs. https://gofund.me/028ccecf

If you look further down the calendar we have a lot coming up this next couple of months. (further down)

Sunday we looked at the parable about Lazarus and the rich man. It is in Luke 16. The week before we looked at ‘heaven’ as to where it is and what is heaven? So in my thinking we have to look at the other side, hell. The parable does not use the word hell, but uses the word hades. Where is it and what is it? I have spoken from that parable before but never to examine the matter of hell. Hades was just a bit of an unnecessary detour for the parable. That is the way I treated the parable but sometimes you just have to jump in! As so we did! Not a topic that is popular to approach, sin and hell.

Some people will say that if God is so loving why would he send his children to hell? But God did not create hell for his children. 2 Peter 2:4 is clear that hell was created for the devil and his followers, the fallen angels who participated in the rebellion. Some people reject God and want no part of God or his offers. So in their rejection of God and heaven, they get to be apart from God by their own choice.

There is a fork in the road, it is our decision which road we take. Accept the offer of God to be with him in paradise or not. It is based upon our decision about whether we want to follow the offer of Jesus as the saviour or not. God’s desire is that no one perishes. But he will not violate your freedom.

Right Now Media. Is ready! SCCC has taken a one year membership with Rightnow Media. We are offering this resource to SCCC. I love using Rightnow Media and am very excited that you will be able to have this material resource too! It contains biblical educational videos that have accompanying study books that compliment the video, these can be used for group study or personal study. The studies available are of books of the Bible and also some that are topical. There are resources for adults, men, women, teens and videos teaching for children. I also found ‘conference’ videos that you can take advantage of. In all there are 20,000 videos available. That is a lot of education and inspiration material. The purpose of SCCC in offering this to you is to give you the resources to explore your faith and grow in Christian maturity.

This membership provides for us material in English and Spanish, so it suits our church community very well. Please take advantage of this material and let us know what you think.
