Fish and cookies

It is a good Day; This was Cookie Sunday. I missed the veranda selfie! I just got engaged in talking to some new people in the church and before I knew it the event was packing away. But I did get to have some cookies. Hey a big thank you for all the excellent cookies.

My wife and I attended a dinner. The fish was a donation from David Long and we all added in some money for additional costs. The dinner was a group from the Conversation Club. This is coordinated by Wayne Whiting. He gathers some English speakers together, usually just for coffee and conversation. While Victor Garcia brings his class, who are learning English. Then we visit, sometimes with a learning exercise, and sometimes just for the conversation. Two goals in mind. One that we can represent Jesus to these students, as Victor is a church elder and loves these people, and second that we can create a bond of friendship and learning. If you would like to get involved contact Wayne and express your interest.

I have learned that there are so many other purpose (mission) projects and activities that SCCC people are involved in. John and Barb, help and assist with the fire fighters in Empalme. Daniel and Roxanne are ministering in La Munga helping with the school there. Frank is new to SCCC and just wants to help. So, I introduced him to Devon and Marisol. Another young couple we went for lunch with, spoke to me about where to serve in the church. I made a couple of suggestions, and they said they would follow through, but sometimes people start and then see other opportunities that are more suiting their passions. Let’s just watch! It is great when people take the opportunity to use their time to serve the community in Jesus’ name. As a pastor, you just have to be proud.

Starting October 11 is a six week ladies study series, “The Cost of Control” with video introduction by Sharon Hodde Miller. There will be more information in the weeks to come.

Now, can I ask you to pray for Randy? He is in Alberta with his wife visiting family. Recent headaches have taken him to the doctor. The tumor in his brain is growing and he requires surgery. That surgery maybe four months away. Pray for this to be sooner and his immediate healing.

Please pray for Brenda K as she recovers from her shoulder surgery. She hopes for a speedy recovery so that they can soon return to San Carlos.

Answers to prayer happen and miracles. I have been challenged that we should be a church praying and expecting healing and miracles. Karen Ruddock was moved out of the sanctuary on Sunday she seemed to be in distress. Ken Van Kirk hurry her away and she went to emergency. Continuing on she had blood work, to see if it was her heart. The result of the blood work is it seems to be nothing serious other than some adjustments to medications. This is a serious big answer to prayer as we had considered the possibly it was her heart. Why are we surprised when we pray for a miracle and we see miracles happen? The end of the matter is that Karen is well and at home and the doctors have no concerns about her.

Sunday, Being thankful is a habit that takes practice and is not natural. We teach it to our children and lack the practice ourselves. Sometimes circumstance bring us into a position where we are more reliant on others, and it pushes us into the place of being thankful, but thankfulness is almost forced upon us by that reliance to others.

Here is a thought, wouldn’t you like to push open the doors of heaven and enter easily into the presence of God so close that you can hear his very breath. It is just a picture. But yes and here is another thought, God should hear us before he sees us enter that throne room. He should hear us praising him and giving thanks.

Psalm 100 gives us a pattern and instruction for that opportunity. Read it and notice the structure. Verse one and two tells us the action of worship. Verse three and five tell us why we should worship. And then look at verse four, it is the secret to getting there. With thanksgiving and praise!

But too often we go to God with requests and pleas and neglect who he is. We consider his power to answer but forget what he has done and his glory. We ask a blessing on our meals and give thanks, it seems like the Christian thing to do, but otherwise how often do we just knee and give a prayer of thanks?

It is not a natural posture but it changes everything. Our lives change when it is the attitude and posture of thanks to God. We will be looking for what to be thankful for and then when we start our wishes and wants are not so important any more.

Other movements in our lives change too. Worry, fear, poverty thinking, jealousy and the feeling of want, just seem to leave. What will enter is, giving, gratitude and joy. But it is your choice, to learn and practice thanks to God as a prayer and worship action. It changes so much in your life.

Right Now Media. Is ready! SCCC has taken a one year membership with Rightnow Media. We are offering this resource to SCCC. I love using Rightnow Media and am very excited that you will be able to have this material resource too! It contains biblical educational videos that have accompanying study books that compliment the video, these can be used for group study or personal study. The studies available are of books of the Bible and also some that are topical. There are resources for adults, men, women, teens and videos teaching for children. I also found ‘conference’ videos that you can take advantage of. In all there are 20,000 videos available. That is a lot of education and inspiration material. The purpose of SCCC in offering this to you is to give you the resources to explore your faith and grow in Christian maturity.

This membership provides for us material in English and Spanish, so it suits our church community very well. Please take advantage of this material and let us know what you think.
