Pastor’s Desk – look at all the faces

Chuck Sheridan Avatar

It is a good Day; Another good Sunday with cookies after service. Ryan treated us to worship service with himself, Christie and Rafael and Absalon. It is Sunday’s like this that I just ant to continue to worship and it seems almost the anticlimax to preach. Now I am just talking about my feelings not what should be.

Missionfest is this Sunday January 29. What is this event? It is the opportunity for you to learn a bit more about the nine missions and ministries we support. They will be available after the service to tell you about what they are doing. Also please bring a salad or/and cookies to share. The meal and viewing of missions will be on the veranda after the morning service.

Benevolence Fund Raiser Bazaar Feb 4 Saturday from 9 to 1 pm on the church veranda. I saw some of those items and they are very good items. This is no yard sale! All proceeds go to support our benevolence fund ministry.

Have you noticed the new sign post in the church yard entrance? Soon it will be filled with the new sign and lighting. And there is also a new sign on the road coming up to the church too. And if you ever chance into the church back yard, Don almost rebuilt the propane tank too. Thank you Don Geisler.

Just a week ago we had Monday Night at the Movies. We played a movie from Pureflix called Samson. It presented him in a view that I had not considered. A few days later I was visiting a man from our church. He told me the movie really affected him. He could relate to Samson. He explained about his own faith that could be described as lukewarm, but that God was still faithful to him and still even used him. He saw how gracious God had been in his life. It moved him to be more faithful to God and not so lukewarm about his love for Jesus. It is his decision to get more serious about God.

Church is really filling up and we have so many different people from two years ago. Some of them have not been able to return and then came back and then see all these different faces. It seems like we are returning to ‘normal’ again. Often, I just want to sit and look around, as each person is so unique and a wonder to know.

Inside these people are unexpected gifts. Last week Lynn and I went for lunch with a couple to Hammerheads restaurant. As we heard their story of careers and present life, I marvelled at the amazing variety we have here at SCCC. You get to thinking that you wish these people wouldn’t go home but just stay. Yes I am guilty of trying to talk some people into staying and just relocating to San Carlos.

Sunday We often hear the term, ‘mind of Christ.’ But what is this? We worked from the verses in 1 Corinthians 2. Paul is dealing with a difficult church. He knew by his own skills and experience he could do all that was needed but came to them in fear and trembling to the church. I think because he knew the temptation was there just to deal with matters but chose to follow the line he thought would best present Christ and the cross.

He wrote that we can work out of the spirit of the world or the spirit of God. Which source do we want to draw from for wisdom? Verse 13 “This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words.”

So then trying to explain the cross and him crucified and resurrected, by the use of my words and impressiveness of speech is foolishness. I need spirit taught words. Where do those come from? Only from having the mind of Christ and that I do not have unless I know Christ as my Lord and Saviour and am led by his Spirit. Oh, I pray that is so in me. That more people can get a revelation of who he is!

Blessings, Pastor Chuck.  Next Sunday, “Building Castles”

Right Now Media. Is ready! SCCC has taken a one year membership with Rightnow Media. We are offering this resource to SCCC. I love using Rightnow Media and am very excited that you will be able to have this material resource too! It contains biblical educational videos that have accompanying study books that compliment the video, these can be used for group study or personal study. The studies available are of books of the Bible and also some that are topical. There are resources for adults, men, women, teens and videos teaching for children. I also found ‘conference’ videos that you can take advantage of. In all there are 20,000 videos available. That is a lot of education and inspiration material. The purpose of SCCC in offering this to you is to give you the resources to explore your faith and grow in Christian maturity.

This membership provides for us material in English and Spanish, so it suits our church community very well. Please take advantage of this material and let us know what you think.
