Pastor’s Desk-no turkey

It is a good Day; Canadians celebrate “Thanksgiving” on Monday October 10 and the people of the Untied States celebrate November 24. Why is that, I don’t know. In my thinking may be the Canadians took an earlier date as it was too cold by late November. I suppose we could always find the true information, but it doesn’t matter so much at this moment.

What matters is to be thankful. I think many have heard me say before that the best power secret of prayer is to be thankful. Too many people in prayer are just telling God about their needs and the needs of others. That is good, but so much of my outlook on life started the day I parked in my driveway, got out of my pickup truck, looked at my house and marveled how on our meager salary we had never been late for a utility bill or a house payment. I was thankful to God for His abundant supply to my family.

Being thankful is not a one day event. It may take practice but it is vital to your outlook on life to be thankful all the time. To speak to God in prayer and just be saying thank you, and try listing off what you are thankful for. In my house we spend more time praying in thanks than anything else before God. Do we pray about other concerns and matters? Oh absolutely, but we always start in thanks.

Here at SCCC I am grateful for my friends from the Untied States. November 24 is a Thursday, and I think I smell turkey and fixings at a church supper. There are so many things to be thankful for. So many we need more than one day to list them.

There are several concerning matters of prayer for the lives, health and travels of the people of SCCC, please remember them.

Sunday, This Sunday Ryan Thiessen spoke to us. He was speaking from 2 Kings 5:1-15. But the story message was not about Elijah or Naaman but about a young Israelite girl who had been captured by Naaman’s army and given to Naaman’s wife as a servant.
When Naaman had leprosy, it was the faith and testimony of this nameless young girl that brought the events to unfold for Naaman’s cure and subsequent testimony of God.

Even though the girl had a life that was not as anyone would have wished for, there she was still testifying about the goodness and power of God. We can only imagine what went on in her life, but can we identify? That our lives may not always be as we wished or prayed for but will we still have a testimony of the goodness and power of God.

So Ryan’s challenge this week was; “Where are you on your faith journey?” “Is your faith in Him still growing?” and “What is your testimony to others about God to others?”

For the rest of this message I invite you to the website of FB page to hear the entire message.

Blessings, Pastor Chuck.  Next Sunday, I will start a six week series of “People who encountered Jesus.”

Right Now Media. Is ready! SCCC has taken a one year membership with Rightnow Media. We are offering this resource to SCCC. I love using Rightnow Media and am very excited that you will be able to have this material resource too! It contains biblical educational videos that have accompanying study books that compliment the video, these can be used for group study or personal study. The studies available are of books of the Bible and also some that are topical. There are resources for adults, men, women, teens and videos teaching for children. I also found ‘conference’ videos that you can take advantage of. In all there are 20,000 videos available. That is a lot of education and inspiration material. The purpose of SCCC in offering this to you is to give you the resources to explore your faith and grow in Christian maturity.

This membership provides for us material in English and Spanish, so it suits our church community very well. Please take advantage of this material and let us know what you think.
