Pastor’s Desk-normal again

Chuck Sheridan Avatar

It is a good Day; And now back to a normal season. The weekend is over and the garbage is being cleaned up. Wow was this town busy. Church has been awesome too. This last Sunday people were really in worship. There was such a celebration here for the resurrection.

On Good Friday I left a cross on the platform steps. I suggested people could put prayer requests and confessions of faith on a sticky note and put in on the cross. I did not expect such a great response. This has been a weekend of “response.”

First a correction to last week. I wrote of an event that I said was in April. Wrong and it was not a typing error. The event is July! And here is a link to a couple of testimonies from their youth who hope to go to the conference. https://1drv.ms/v/s!ArUUKipdvEA6uEGkvB5RFoUqayJN?e=UNrYxB

“Hi there! The youth of Belen Casa de Pan (a Christian feeding center of Guaymas) want to go to an annual national youth conference, (on July 26-29) it’s a very important youth event in Mexico, where the Holy Spirit will minister their hearts, healing, bring freedom through the word of God, calling and teaching them how to be servants! This generation is very important to us because many of them have been with us since little (they were little. Meaning many of these youth have a very long time relationship with the ministry as a child and now a teen) and now they are helping in many parts such as vbs, cleaning up, outreach and festivals because of this we would love for them to be part of this wonderful experience.

. Semana Santa. This year the Easter weekend is April 7-9. We had two outreach ministry stations in operation. One at the round about near Los Jitos Hotel and the Fletcha gas and another at the San Francisco beach. Centre for Christian Education, (CEC) with Denver and Ryan supervising over a dozen of their students, went with Mayra and some of our youth to the beach. While others from the church went with youth to the downtown round about.  We gave away a book, “Historias de la Vida Real” and offered it to people on the street, each with an invitation to the church and a gospel message. It is a great effect way to share when teenagers approach a person with water and a smile.

Monday Night at the Movies is next on April 17, “Risen” released in 2016 with Joseph Fiennes. Movie Night has been very popular as a fellowship event. The intermission with old style animated cartoons and free popcorn has been fun too. It does have Spanish subtitles. Bring a friend.

C.E.C. has a graduation coming up. It will be held at the church on April 28. C.E.C. is giving solid Bible teaching and leadership training to the Mexican men and women. The goal is that they would be better trained for teaching and sharing the gospel within their own culture. I have been to each of these grads over the last few years and while I don’t understand everything said, I think our presence communicates a lot of value to them.

Sunday, the message was about the rolling stone. Or the stone that was rolled away from the tomb. The text came from Luke 24:1-9. It was an event that Jesus had told them was going to happen, and they didn’t remember. So many times, we let what we see and our circumstances direct us in fear when we should have let what testimony we have of what God did before or remember his Word as it says to us. We need to look to what he has shown us and told us rather than our circumstances of the tomb dictate to us.

This I am thankful for; he is a God of second chances. It is like a movie that does not end so well. Then we wait for the sequel to see the redemption of our hero and the good ending. God gives us little adams a second chance.

How does that work? The first Adam brought us sin by his disobedience to God. The second adam was and is Jesus who was obedient even to the death on the cross. 1 Corinthians 15:20-23 teaches this. Because of Jesus death and resurrection; his victory over death, we can have the second chance. How? By saying yes, I believe that Jesus took my sin on the cross and rose again from the tomb. Now I too have a second chance at life.

If you don’t have Jesus you are living in the tomb with no hope of resurrection and no light. You are just waiting for the stone to close the door!

Blessings, Pastor Chuck.  Next Sunday, we start a short series on Faith.

Right Now Media. Is ready! SCCC has taken a one year membership with Rightnow Media. We are offering this resource to SCCC. I love using Rightnow Media and am very excited that you will be able to have this material resource too! It contains biblical educational videos that have accompanying study books that compliment the video, these can be used for group study or personal study. The studies available are of books of the Bible and also some that are topical. There are resources for adults, men, women, teens and videos teaching for children. I also found ‘conference’ videos that you can take advantage of. In all there are 20,000 videos available. That is a lot of education and inspiration material. The purpose of SCCC in offering this to you is to give you the resources to explore your faith and grow in Christian maturity.

This membership provides for us material in English and Spanish, so it suits our church community very well. Please take advantage of this material and let us know what you think.
