Pastor’s Desk – popcorn?

Chuck Sheridan Avatar

It is a good Day; Christmas has come and gone. Can you believe it is 2023? Maybe if you were born in the last twenty years you may think nothing of this. But most of us thought we would have destroyed ourselves by now. Here we are. So much has happened in this last year.

The church is healthy. People are returning. The balcony is finished and cleaned up. We are installing new signs on the road and at the church. There is new landscaping in the church yard. We had two potluck meals in 2022 and wow were they great. And if you step into my office it looks like we teleported a bookcase from some 1960’s college room! We had two movie nights this last year. Both were well attended. Unfortunately, at the last movie, we ran out of popcorn. So many people came we even used the microwave popcorn the youth group had, and one man went home and brought his supply!

Looking ahead, we have movie night scheduled for each month. And a large supply of popcorn is here! It has been months but we have a new website in the making. We have an Instagram page of the church to reach more people about SCCC and our service for Jesus. And if you have good ears, you may notice the sound has improved and more changes are coming for the sound.

Going further on this page you will see dates for Missionfest and Mark Mulligan is returning for a show at the church. Our Bible studies are starting this week. Check your calendar. And a new event you will hear of is coming up un February at the church. But I wouldn’t say more. You will just have to read the newsletter next week!

Please continue to keep updated on our events and look around the church. Changes are slow but we are moving forward to be more attractive and serve people better. 2023 will be a great year at SCCC.

Howard D should be on his way home right now. Susan and Howard are being chauffeured in a motorhome back to their home here. Once here he still requires a lot of care. Special equipment and medical supplies are needed. He needs full time care and assistance. It will be costly. The thought is that at home Howard will be more comfortable and in surroundings that may refresh his spirit and be encouraging to him. There is a link that is on the church FB page for an account to help with this project. But if I post it here in this newsletter, your server will reject the newsletter. So please consider and contribute to the account to bring Howard home to MX.

If you look further down the calendar we have a lot coming up this next couple of months. (further down)

Sunday, I had never preached about heaven before. Last winter a lady put the challenge to me. Do you know Jesus spoke so much about heaven and taught so many parables about heaven. But then here we are we get all kinds of ideas about heaven that have nothing to do with the scripture. Many of these parables were about what heaven is like but people seemed mostly concerned with where. As if some how we can get there without God if only we knew where to go. Remember the Tower of Babel in Genesis 11? If we knew where I am sure we as beings would try again.

We can be sure of some particulars of heaven. Jesus is there. In John 14:2-3 he said he was going there to prepare a place for us.  Also in Hebrews 9:24 we read that he is there before the throne on our behalf. Best of all we have returned to a place like the Garden of Eden. How is that? In two places the same word in Greek is used. And it describes paradise as the garden or park of God. (Luke 23:42-43 and Revelation 2:7).

Now I know I have a reservation. Maybe you have been to a place and found out there was no reservation when you got there? My wife and I did. We travelled to Israel and got to the hotel to find that they had no reservation for us. But because of my relationship with Jesus as my saviour and he is my Lord, Luke 10:20, my name is enrolled or recorded there in heaven already. I can imagine when I get there, it will be a yes, we have a place prepared for you. Don’t push, I am not in a hurry. I hope we are all going in the same direction? Are you heaven bound?

Blessings, Pastor Chuck.  Next Sunday, “Lazarus and a Rich man”

Right Now Media. Is ready! SCCC has taken a one year membership with Rightnow Media. We are offering this resource to SCCC. I love using Rightnow Media and am very excited that you will be able to have this material resource too! It contains biblical educational videos that have accompanying study books that compliment the video, these can be used for group study or personal study. The studies available are of books of the Bible and also some that are topical. There are resources for adults, men, women, teens and videos teaching for children. I also found ‘conference’ videos that you can take advantage of. In all there are 20,000 videos available. That is a lot of education and inspiration material. The purpose of SCCC in offering this to you is to give you the resources to explore your faith and grow in Christian maturity.

This membership provides for us material in English and Spanish, so it suits our church community very well. Please take advantage of this material and let us know what you think.
