Pastor’s Desk – rain the the desert

It is a good Day; Hey did you miss Mark Mulligan at the church? It was a great evening. Some people even brought their own popcorn! We raised a good amount for the charities of Outreach for World of Hope. You can find that charity online very easy. I did while at the event. It is a charity to save children in poverty in places like Haiti. And we also raised money for our Benevolence Fund to help the poor in our own community. Just this week our BF paid for a young lady to have an infected gall bladder removed.

Then Monday night we had a movie at the church. We watched Samson. It was a biblical drama of the anti hero Samson. But my view of Samson is a little more sympathetic now. We had an intermission time. Someone commented we should have cartoons during intermission, so we watched some Bugs Bunny for a few minutes. But what I liked was watching people visit. We had quests that were from the community and they came for an evening together.  And yes we had lots of popcorn.

Going further on this page you will see dates for Missionfest is January 29. What is this event? It is the opportunity for you to learn a bit more about the nine missions and ministries we support. They will be available after the service to tell you about what they are doing. Also please bring a salad or/and cookies to share. The meal and viewing of missions will be on the veranda after the morning service.

Fog, clouds and cold weather has rolled in on us for a few days. We even had a good steady rain! It was refreshing and needed. It has made me think how these desert plants will survive off this moisture for so long. The plant life here is amazing. I liken it to taking a passage of scripture and drawing nutrients from it that feeds my spirit for days. I just mall it over in my thinking for days. I draw away from it all I can and ponder on His Word. It is like water to me. Can I encourage you to read the Bible not like a speed reader but take a passage and just dwell on it for a couple of days.

Howard D. He is home, as is Susan. But please don’t rush over and visit. The family needs to settle in and Howard tires easily. So contact a family member about a visit before you go. Kathryn is organizing freezer meals for Susan. Please contact her at   to participate.

Please do not telephone the house. Right now they prefer email.   (Notice .ca  Don’t be surprised if your email suggests .com which it is not)

Since they left Canada to return home, medical expenses are covered on their own, please consider and contribute to the account to help the family with costs.

Sunday Some people never understand their calling. They expect vision of angels to come and deliver a great call to them of what they are to do. But really it is so simple. Just live out each day as living for Christ. We gathered this from 1 Corinthians 1:26-31.

The passage begins with Paul writing of the foolishness of the world’s wisdom. And how we can get drawn into the worse debates with them if not careful. We must know our direction and to what we are called to. We are called to Jesus and him crucified and that is all. We confound the wisdom of the world and why do we expect them to understand. Push aside the foolish debates and just tell them the gospel. Leave their decision to them. Is there room for apologetics? Yes, but that is for those called to that, and most of us are not and some who think they are should really rethink that about themselves!

God has chosen us in our own manner to be who we are and to use us just as we are designed. Then because of Him and Him only we are made righteous, sanctified, and redeemed. Verse 30 says it is by his doing that we are these 3 events but also that we are his wisdom. He takes what the world considers foolish and confounds them with us.

Blessings, Pastor Chuck.  Next Sunday, “The Mind of Christ”

Right Now Media. Is ready! SCCC has taken a one year membership with Rightnow Media. We are offering this resource to SCCC. I love using Rightnow Media and am very excited that you will be able to have this material resource too! It contains biblical educational videos that have accompanying study books that compliment the video, these can be used for group study or personal study. The studies available are of books of the Bible and also some that are topical. There are resources for adults, men, women, teens and videos teaching for children. I also found ‘conference’ videos that you can take advantage of. In all there are 20,000 videos available. That is a lot of education and inspiration material. The purpose of SCCC in offering this to you is to give you the resources to explore your faith and grow in Christian maturity.

This membership provides for us material in English and Spanish, so it suits our church community very well. Please take advantage of this material and let us know what you think.
