Pastor’s Desk-snow shovels and sand

It is a good Day; First the small talk about the weather. Up north, snow storms; and here the best weather. It is not too hot nor too cool. We don’t need heaters nor air conditioners. And the fishing summer season seems to have started. It is hard to believe that Easter is less than a month away! Typically, that is when we see it as the beginning of spring and start to think of summer vacation plans. As a church that usually means a decrease in attendance as people escape for vacations/holidays and I guess by the way attendance goes, there are no churches. Soon that will happen here too. Then I waiting for the return of the people I know and miss. Can I ask you not to forget SCCC if you are those who slip away for the summer? Please keep in touch and don’t be out of sight and out of mind.

Hey there is still lots to come in the next month;

Monday Night at the Movies is coming up March 20, and it will be “David and Goliath.” A classic, released in 1960, with Orson Welles. Then April 17, “Risen” released in 2016 with Joseph Fiennes. Movie Night has been very popular as a fellowship event. The intermission with old style animated cartoons and free popcorn has been fun too. Thank you for your suggestions. I have enough now to carry us for a few months. If it seems like a popular and healthy event we will continue through the summer.

Coming up too is the March Fish Fry on Thursday 23. It is a benefit towards the Benevolence Fund. Hey, fisherman (person) catch fish and tell them they are ordained for service to feed the hungry and help the poor. I don’t know if the fish will feel better but it gives new purpose to fishing! We are looking for donations of fish.

Semana Santa is coming up. This year the Easter weekend is April 7-9. We plan to take our youth group out again to give away bottled water and an invitation to the church. Last year we placed those invitations inside a book, “Historias de la Vida Real” and offered it to people on the street in that manner. Last year we gave away 1512 books and invitations to the church.

This year as we plan for the event we have only 1200 books and would really like to have more Spanish gospel material that will engage people as they read. We will also match that with bottles of water and invitations to the church. If you have something like that as a book or new Bible please contact us at the church. It is a great effect way to share when teenagers approach a person with water and a smile!

Sunday. Heavenly places is a major theme in the letter to the church in Ephesus. We think of heaven as up and hell as down, but that is not what is addressed here. If heaven is up, and in our future than we are in waiting.

However, when you read all these phrases through the letter it becomes evident to me that Christ is in the heavenly place and then in 2:6 it says “raised us up with him” and that is past tense not future. What does that mean if I am still on this side of the grass?

Perhaps it is that we are in the authority of Christ who is in the heavenly place of authority and we share in the spiritual blessings. This is because our position with Christ has given this to us as our inheritance. This relationship of saviour and sinner redeemed carries for us more than just future blessings but present position.

Yet often we think our blessings and authority is future and we live life under the dictation of present circumstances. Because of Christ I have blessings now and my heavenly place, if I can say it this way, is already and now. I have this position now. It is because of my relationship.

Without going to great length here and exploring all five passages of scripture, I challenged the congregation to read Ephesians through at one sitting and just note what these passages say. Also, to reflect on what their belief is according to these verses?

Next week we will look at another often repeated phrase, “in Christ” which gives more clarity to this relationship position.

Blessings, Pastor Chuck.  Next Sunday, “In Christ”

Right Now Media. Is ready! SCCC has taken a one year membership with Rightnow Media. We are offering this resource to SCCC. I love using Rightnow Media and am very excited that you will be able to have this material resource too! It contains biblical educational videos that have accompanying study books that compliment the video, these can be used for group study or personal study. The studies available are of books of the Bible and also some that are topical. There are resources for adults, men, women, teens and videos teaching for children. I also found ‘conference’ videos that you can take advantage of. In all there are 20,000 videos available. That is a lot of education and inspiration material. The purpose of SCCC in offering this to you is to give you the resources to explore your faith and grow in Christian maturity.

This membership provides for us material in English and Spanish, so it suits our church community very well. Please take advantage of this material and let us know what you think.
