Pastor’s Desk – wedding cake

Chuck Sheridan Avatar

It is a good Day; This last Sunday after worship service we celebrated a wedding. Congratulations to Roger Miller and Christina Hoell. Then we all went to the veranda for cookies and wedding cake. It was a great morning of celebration and fellowship.

My house is empty again. My wife and I had visitors for the last two months. It was great to catch up on their lives and to showcase San Carlos. In two months we had three couples come to visit. And the church was more popular than the beach. They all stated how friendly and welcoming the church is. And it was not just at church, these friends were also invited out to serve on mission trips, near and far, and just out for coffee. It made it so easy for my wife and I when we just gave our guests our car and set them loose to visit others. Thank you SCCC for treating people with warmth and love.

Monday Night at the Movies is coming up March 20, if you have a good suggestion, let us know. It has been very popular as a fellowship event. The intermission with old style animated cartoons and free popcorn has been fun too.

We have some volunteer positions open in the church. We want to expand our operators for the facebook camera and the powerpoint computer. There are other positions too. I can list them all, but maybe there is something you would like to do that may not even be on my list and you just have an idea. If you can put in an hour or two a week, please contact us.

Can I remind you to pray for Howard? And to pray for the affairs of war and disaster in other countries. Pray also for our governments, that God would have his hand upon them.

Sunday coming is the first Sunday of March and so we will celebrate the Lord’s Table at our service. Also fitting to that celebration, it is Benevolence Sunday offering.

This last Sunday we looked at can the church impact the world? We studied 1 Corinthian 13:11 about childish thinking and speaking as a child in immaturity. Children are often self focused. Often thinking about consuming, and then wanting more, and not producing anything except for their lives. That posture of life has no beneficial impact upon the world around us.

Last week the challenge was to be a producer and not a consumer. It seems there are levels of maturity. To move from consuming to producing in our lives is not just about aging which is different than maturing. Maturity is needed to be a producer with your life which means being other focused. But sometimes it is difficult to see what the impact of our life is upon others. 1 Corinthians 13:12 speaks about looking in a mirror and it is only a reflection. We cannot see clearly or any further than the mirror reflection. It also says someday we will see or know more and know fully.

Verse 13 then speaks about love. Which has been the subject from Corinthians these last few weeks. To tie it together, we love and are to be charitable to others, producing in their lives for them, yet not always able to see the full effect upon others. How far does our love go? We don’t know, but someday we may know clearly. I suspect when we sit with Christ and see his full glory and come to know the fullness of the story of Christ and his love.

The church as a world impacting body needs to love others and be mature in their love of one another. Producing and not just consuming. Touching the lives of others around us and maybe never seeing the full impact but doing so without concern for what is our return. I am saying the church is to love within and out, giving freely and not counting it as an investment nor concerning with it’s returns.

For the rest of the story, you can follow us on the website and hear the audio or watch the entire service or part of it on our facebook page.

Blessings, Pastor Chuck.  Next Sunday, “Grace”

Right Now Media. Is ready! SCCC has taken a one year membership with Rightnow Media. We are offering this resource to SCCC. I love using Rightnow Media and am very excited that you will be able to have this material resource too! It contains biblical educational videos that have accompanying study books that compliment the video, these can be used for group study or personal study. The studies available are of books of the Bible and also some that are topical. There are resources for adults, men, women, teens and videos teaching for children. I also found ‘conference’ videos that you can take advantage of. In all there are 20,000 videos available. That is a lot of education and inspiration material. The purpose of SCCC in offering this to you is to give you the resources to explore your faith and grow in Christian maturity.

This membership provides for us material in English and Spanish, so it suits our church community very well. Please take advantage of this material and let us know what you think.
