Three Hours of Darkness

Chuck Sheridan Avatar

One of the miracles that occurred at Calvary, the place of Jesus crucifixion, was that darkness covered the land.

“Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour.”  Matthew 27:45

We know this darkness to be the turning of the Father away from His only Son while Jesus bore the sins of the world.  Everything, every sin, every wrong, every hatred, every bitterness, fear and unforgiveness was paid for by Jesus perfect holiness.  “Look,” John the Baptist said, “the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.”

During that three hours of darkness eveything you have ever done, are doing or will do in the future, that is wrong in the sight of God, has been paid for.  God did it and we don’t deserve any forgiveness whatsoever, but that’s grace.  Undeserved, unmerited favor from God.

When Jesus hung on the Cross – Grace came shining through the darkness in one loud proclaimation.  “It is finished!”
